Seriously, do you suppose the colorist did this on purpose as a prank.  Notice that it's a slightly different "flesh color" than the guy's face.  That means he thought about it and actually PICKED that color.

Just came across this, in “Comics Interview #59” there’s an interview with Linda Stanley of Sleepeck Printing, the company used to print Fantagraphics Amazing Heroes at the time among other indie publishers... In the interview they bring the Jack Kirby cover as a “Printer nightmare” but do not discuss the obvious color issue. More of a cropping matter. That suggests to me that there was probably a complaint about that in the past

So this cover is a "perfect storm" of errors, rush job, color mistake, & cropping mistake.
