My martial arts ex-buddy also kept asking me how to get in the splits.  I told him, over and over.  Not once did he follow my instructions.  If you are close to the splits, you get in hot tub for 1/2 hour, steam bath for 1/2 hour-then go into the splits.  That is how I got them.  You need to fully loosen muscles and tendons with slow heat then do the final push.  Once you have them, you keep them.  61 years old can still do splits both ways no problemo.

That and dont mind if she does...Middle-Splits-Machine.jpg.91e54c49ebfa9a48c5333418b1aa8429.jpg

Reading definitely helps as it trains the mind and visualization,  but it really takes practice and training the muscles for their endurance and muscle memory.  Movement needs to become second nature and more of a response then just a movement.

practice and training are #1-but without reading you are closing off a lot of information that would make practice and training more effective, as well as actual combat situations, including psychology of combat.  You can be a good fighter not reading, but with info download its next level.  example-I hardly ever/never see UFC or boxers utitlizing the feint.  One of the most incredible tools of fighting is completely ignored.

stretching machines are for chumps.  The only stretching machine you need is the ground.

I definitely do agree, however in the UFC and other combative areas the main issue is that it is closer to live combat and with that it only takes one strike or panic to make you forget most of what you have studied. You immediately revert back to what you have drilled repeatedly.

I have to agree.  Thats why I trained with feints.  I have to say I'm a master at it.  I can feint with my eyes.  And it works just fine in real fights too.

One of my favorites is simple-you lash a flat hand toward face-opponent arms come up, you stretch kick to crotch.  This is used for bullies.

One last word on stretching-I learned in ballet you have to stretch every day.  Not long-2 minutes is fine but has to be every day.  Skip one day you are 2 days behind.  Thats what my buddy never understood-he would stretch for 45 min maybe 3 times a week.  Currently I stretch 60 sec a day.

That's right. I am pulling one from the Book of Kav and quoting myself... I just thought it relevant to point out the irony that this one was about training and her being hijacked.. like this thread..

You know. Because a joke is always funnier when it is explained...

most of my jokes have to be explained in detail.  Then i have to explain why they are funny.  Then, I have to explain that they are not laffing because they must be stupid-

I stretch for exactly 75 seconds per day because that is the issue that Superman 'died' in.  I also only eat Cheerios because that is what Ma fed Clark in Superman: The Movie the morning after Pa's funeral.  I only drink Budweiser (not any more) because that is what Clark and Jimmy were drinking when they found out Lois was going to crash/burn in Superman Returns.  I am super limber, and not in a weird way!
