I’ve never done one and I never will.  I know a few people that have over the years from various sellers and it’s been garbage 100% of the time.

Yeah that’s what I figured I was thinking I was gonna do those 5 dollar grab bags or maybe 10 in case I get trash

Grab bags are for bored suckers.  A seller doesn't put up a grab bag and pack them full of books they know they can sell.  You may get an ok deal of a bunch of hard to sell left over books but even that is a stretch with most e-bay grab bags.  Just avoid them.

I have done grab bags once, maayybe twice. The first time was when I was in high school. Me and my brother each spent a whopping $10USD plus shipping for a mystery comic from a lot of Spider-Man related comics.

Well our two books arrived and I got ASM #252! Or at least, I took that one because I was the bigger comic guy. My brother got ASM #381 as he enjoyed Hulk. I believe that was the only time I ever did a grab bag or mystery lot off ebay. If I did try again, it was maybe once and I spent maybe $20 and got $5 worth. As a non gambler I know that a win does not equal more wins.

Its comic gambling. Some of the people selling this way online are offering decent stuff, others are not. Check the comments. If you don't see happy customers, don't buy. And at the end of the day, remember its gambling. You should go into a casino expecting to lose the $50, 100, 200 or whetever you went in with as your gambling amount. And you cannot be upset with these grab bags if you spent $20, 50, 100 for some comics and only get $5, 10, 25 worth.

had a friend pick up a few they are trash.. nothing worth anything in them.. even if they claim the there is good stuff in them.. I would stay away unless your bored and want to just spend some money for no reason... but I wouldn't expect anything out of them..

Personally I stay away no matter how tempting that grand prize is.. lol

its the same thing with the Instagram comic raffles.. the winner is always a friend of theirs so the comic doesn't really go anywhere.. and gets to stay in their collection or they sell it off to someone else... and your out your 20$ or 50$

Not that I would ever do one of those. Everything posted is 100% correct. Use your common sense.

But a guy at work bought one at a local con and actually scored. He got a very high grade Black Cat Mystery #50. He was hoping for a slabbed, signed Stan Lee book and was a little disappointed until I explained what it was. I told him he could sell or trade it for several signed Stan books.

It can happen but most likely never...

I think the con ones are a bit better as they have stuff in them worth more usually than the book/bag and some have the grand prizes in them for real as I saw some one next to me win the PS4 grand prize. it was a light empty box as the PS4 wasn't in the box itself but the coupon was in there for the PS4...

Yeah, the con ones need to get some excitement to sell them. Some body actually scoring in person gets the crowd fired up.

I think by buddy would have actually rathered getting A PS4 than the Black Cat Mystery 50 in high grade. :roflmao:

I have bought a couple many years ago and never got anything good. Waste of money.

There was a time on these boards where grab bags were allowed. I purchased one of those too, but the books I got all had water damage. It was a way for this boardie to unload his damaged books. Needless to say, the moderators put a stop to it and this board member hurt his reputation with many people.

The bags of common drek promising the opportunity to get an AF15 or whatever are guaranteed to be trash. But I did buy a poorly listed grab bag advertised as 80 Indy comics, when more like 120 arrived. I paid about $10 with free shipping. Had a full set of deadworld with 7 or 8 #1’s and some other really good stuff.

A looooong time ago I got a grab bag of 100 BA books for $50. They were advertised as being Fine and the seller had some titles, but no issues or pics. Payment by check or MO. This is before everyone had pics or took PayPal. He seemed like a reputable seller though. Nice array of Marvels, all 9.0-9.6, half of them mark jewelers. Got lucky on some others. But these were all 15+ years ago. Now most look like scams. I used to sell grab bags, but I was specific by era, opg value, etc. Minimum $100 log, up to $1000. Usually sold at 30-45% of that. Sometimes by title, company, etc. One return out of about 50.
