On comicart-l Spencer Beck posted a some 14 originals for sale most are Uncanny X-Men plus Iron Fist and a few commissions. What does everyone think about the prices? I know Uncanny X-Men are strong just seems a bit high. Are they fair market value?

Most of them don’t feel out of the realm of possibility... but definitely some aspirational pricing. Seems like the seller wants record prices without any of the auction houses getting their cut. Good luck I guess.

Nothing against Scott Williams but Dark Phoneix Black Queen Blue Line seems really out there. Being a blueline, Byrne probably never touched the artwork.

No telling on the unpublished pages. “Scans are available upon request” so I guess if somebody is interested enough they can ask for pictures.

Page 26?  Issue 125 had 18 pages.  Issue 138 had 19 pages.  Am I missing something?

These are the page numbers when you include the ad pages.

I was offered the published pages through an intermediary earlier this year, but, the prices were a complete non-starter.  Basically pages that were bought at auction or from dealer sites in recent years and marked up to, IMO, absurd levels.

Scans upon request is total B S. For the money your asking get quality pics up.

Nothing says no riff raff allowed like this approach. I’m surprised there are prices listed. I’d rather have Spencer tell me, “if you have to ask you can’t afford it.”

Good grief •••

uhh...that being said, Spencer can I get scans of the two X-Men 137pages?

Sincerly,

If you break it you buy it sign

Not going to lie, some excellent artwork here. High prices or not.

I sold the original Byrne pencil finished drawing of 'Dark Phoenix and Black Queen' on eBay about 20 years ago. It was originally commissioned in Vancouver, BC circa Jan, 1980 or 1981 when Byrne was signing at a local 2.5 day con. Later, a blue line was created that Scott Williams inked, thus Byrne never touched this bristol board.

Uh, yeah.  I sold that blue line about 10 years ago for somewhere in the $800-1000 range.  I doubt I'd sell if for much more today.

Yup, laughably high prices.

The Jim Lee X-Men triptych was a superb deal though, glad a buddy scooped it up :headbang:

Quick question for the resident experts here as I'm in the market for a XMEN Byrne page. What would you consider FMV for these pages???

You have to compare to what’s out there and prior sales data. Genedoh! gave a great example of the 113 page. 8 years from 4 K to 15 K. That’s standard operating procedure. There’s a stiff Take it or leave it tax on every page.

These pages are at a premium.

Best bet keep searching upcoming HA auctions and take a chance it’s an off day. You will be bidding with determined buyers however.

I could only find a few pages being offered for sale elsewhere. This one by Albert Moy. $38,000. The 121 page is $27 K The DPS is 85 K.54C9D68C-4384-4229-9A71-E3D0E77625B3.thumb.jpeg.b0116090b6317b6abac2dd5481ad91ce.jpeg
