The technical grade would hinge on determining if the tape is solely a split-preventive application, or if the tape is sealing a full length split. Based on what I can see of the staple seating, guessing that the spine is not fully split, the staples (at least the top one, as it appears) is through paper and not being secured by passing through the tape, and that if the tape was not there, the cover would still be attached, even if tenuously/partially, I agree with you, 2.0, maybe a 2.5. If not, and the only reason the book is held together, covers to interior is the tape, then 1.8 to 2.0 is the technical grade. Great call, Lion.
