Hello, I would like to request a score adjustment on Aliens #1 and #2 (Dark Horse 1988). The 2018 average selling price on GPA for Aliens #1 in 9.8 was $607 with 4 books sold, 2019 average was $624 with 5 books sold. No current sales (2016 was last reported sale) are listed on GPA for Aliens #2 in 9.8. However, a 9.8 copy sold in ComicLinks June 2019 auction for $1,156 and another copy sold in ComicLinks Sept. 2019 auction for $716. Aliens #2 is also more scarce in 9.8 grade than all the other books in the series. There are #1 - 36 copies, #2 - 7 copies, #3 - 37 copies, #4 - 26 copies, #5 - 15 copies, #6 - 20 copies. Thanks.

Scoring updated for Aliens #1. Can you please provide screenshots of the auction results for Aliens #2. I am not finding any previous sales therefore, I cannot update at this time. Thank you

Hello Matt,

I would like to request a score adjustment on the following books:

The Crow #1 (1989 Caliber Press): Last 3 sales for Universal label, $3100 (comiclink) $2150, $3200.  The book has almost in value from 2018-2020.  Only 33 Universal 9.8’s on the census. Points Increased. I also increased #2-4 a bit.

Dark Horse Presents #35 (1989 Dark Horse Comics): Only two recorded sales $124 (2014), $404 (2020) and 4 total 9.8’s on the census.  This book is a prelude to the first Aliens vs Predator story and the first appearance of the Heartbreakers. Due to the lack of sales, I was only able to provide a small bump for this book which reflects a sale of a 9.4 in 2019. The one sale for 2020 is way out of line with the other sale and I am not able to make a large jump off one sale.

Aliens Earth War #1 (1990 Dark Horse Comics): If Alien: The illustrated story is not taken into account, Aliens Earth War #1 is the first full appearance of Lt Ellen Ripley in comics.  She had a cameo on the last page of Aliens volume 2 #4.  This book is by no means rare in 9.8 but this is the first appearance of a major character in the Dark Horse Aliens story line. Unfortunately, this book has not had recent sales that merit a point increase. It may actually be a bit overvalued at this time but hopefully some new sales will fix this. While I understand the significance of the first appearance we must justify the scoring by using recent (preferably multiple sales in multiple grades) in order to provide accurate totals.

Predator #1 second print (1989 Dark Horse Comics): First appearance of the Predator in comics.  There are only 29 9.8 universal label copies compared to 139 copies of the first print.  AVP #1 first and second prints share the same amount of points. I slightly increased #1 and #1 second print. The sales suggest that the 1st print is worth more points at this time.

In October 2018, Image/Skybound offered comic stores an opportunity for a store-unique The Walking Dead #1 comic to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the first edition. 157 stores accepted this invitation, and the comics were published - there were 500 for each store which accepted.

Comics are being collected in two sets, and almost 200 have already been graded by CGC:

1) https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SetTypeDetail.aspx?SetTypeID=1984; AND

2) https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SetTypeDetail.aspx?SetTypeID=4954

The Registry scores for these variants should be higher than the 32 points (for a 9.8 Universal) currently awarded. There are only 500 of each which makes them MUCH rarer than 32 points suggests. For example:

Please give this bump request your kind consideration.

Regards

Stephen

Hi Steven,

Thank you for providing this information. The 3 books you referenced are all above 32 points in 9.8. Here's Negan Preview is already assigned 250 points for a 9.8 and cannot be increased at this time as recent sales are in line. Walking Dead 100 Ottley Sketch Cover is assigned 400 for a 9.8 and cannot be increased. I was able to provide a small bump for the Lucille Edition. Please let me know if I overlooked something on my end as I would be happy to reconsider.

Dear Sir,

Yes, I would like you to reconsider; you may not have read my request carefully enough. I asked that the 157 Store editions (TWD 15th Anniversary) each have their scores increased above 32 points (for a 9.8 Universal). The three examples I provided were of other TWD comics limited in availability to 500 copies only.

Please revisit my request.

Regards

Stephen

@StephenWA Thank you for clarifying. I am happy to reconsider some of the point values initially assigned. Please note that we assign the initial market value for modern books but will reconsider once the secondary market presents itself. For most books, it may be safe to assume that there is not a large enough secondary market needed to make appropriate changes as we prefer multiple sales in multiple grades to formulate properly.

Can you please provide a list of books that you wish to have reviewed?

Thank you

amazing spiderman milestone edition 129 signature 9.8 shows 35 points on chart but when register it shows 1

Hello @Kindred,

This book is included in the set as "non-competitive" which is why it is only showing 1 point. This book was added to the set per a collector request but was made non-competitive which means it will not count against those who do not own it.

I know it says “Please try to avoid requests like "Update all scores in X-Men (1963),"” right in the first post of this thread, however, the set "Rick and Morty" seemingly hasn’t ever been updated. I don’t think every number needs adjusted. I will just give the highlights.

I’m not entirely sure how scores are even calculated, even after reading the faq thread titled “How are comics scored?” Currently everything 9.8 is 24 points. I’m going to use that as the floor and adjust everything based on that. That floor being an assumed cgc 9.8 of around $50. Everything that regularly goes for $100 should jump to 50 points. So on and so forth. And I assume the rest of the scores are weighted to the 9.8. If the “floor” isn’t supposed to be 24 then everything will have to be adjusted.

I pretty much only collect Rick and Morty, and I am very familiar with current prices. I mainly use GoCollect and eBay for this data. I can provide links if needed.

Scores Updated. Thank you for limiting your requests.

I have a question.. does rarity come into play in the CGC Registry when points are determined? Batman Adventures: The Lost Years (1998) had 5 issues printed and has had a total of 9 copies graded by CGC. If there are no other 9.8s out there, shouldn't the points be higher?

Hello @Ron C.,

Grade, Rarity, and reputable sale prices (ideally we need multiple sales in multiple grades) are taken into consideration when creating scores. Depending on when the set was created, the score may have been lower as the books may be too new to have a secondary market value or are simply lacking in sales. Please note that CGC does not appraise the value of books so we are not able to update scores off just rarity and grade.

Hey Matt, I believe I know what you need to adjust scores so I'm going to list some Marvel Team-Ups (1972)

Title/issue #                  9.8 points         90 day avg/ last sale        Notes

Marvel Team-Up 1           1400                  $5000/Apr 2008              Three 9.8's in existence

Marvel Team-Up 2            440                   $725/Oct 2018

Marvel Team-Up 3            520                   $655/Jan 2019

Marvel Team-Up 4            520                   $913/Sep 2019

Marvel Team-Up 5            190                  $263/Feb 2017                  I don't have an explanation for the lucky sap who got this book for $35 so this one might be OK.

Marvel Team-Up 6            190                  $405/Apr 2018

Marvel Team-Up 7            190                  $319/2018 average           Two sales in 2018

Marvel Team-Up 8            190                  $273/Oct 2019

Marvel Team-Up 9            190                  $385/Jun 2018

Marvel Team-Up 10          190                  $450/Jun 2011                   Three 9.8's in existence.

This list doesn't have drastic changes with the exception of issue 1 but I feel they're all a little lower than they should be.

Thanks for any love you can give this list!

Some of the scores have been slightly increased but not all of them. Please note that some of the books are lacking recent sales so we are not able to make changes.

Thanks, Matt!  I plan on going through all 157 books, ten at a time so I don't overwhelm the system.  Plus, I enjoy doing the research. All of the latter ones are 32-40 points for 9.8s.  They usually don't go for less than $75 each, but I'll get to those in due time.

Thanks again!

Hello @Robert Doggett

I am happy to review the books that are grossly under valued. Please note that I did not change the point values for all books in your initial post as some were scored correctly or lacked recent/multiple sale data.

Please try your best to limit your requests to those that meet the criteria stated above if possible. Thank you!
