Popular Post Raze
302 Strange Adventures 172 I got this from @ygogolak in his Mixed sales thread. Im a sucker for occult, superstition, Sci-Fi, silliness in general when it comes to early silver age books and this was a fun read! It has all of the things that made that great: the time spanning scope, the graphs and charts, the world building etc. Some great high concept stuff in there. Popular Post Ken Aldred
196 to 210 Young Avengers 1 to 15, 3rd series 2013 For me, the best of the three series, with a very different approach by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie, who also created the excellent "The Wicked and the Divine" at Image. New team members, and a new enemy; an extra-dimensional psychic parasite, not just falling back on another standard Avengers villain such as Kang or Doom, as used in the previous series. Very different artwork, a very open, clean style, some very inventive page layouts and design, clear storytelling with an indie feel, which probably won’t suit everyone. Storywise, if you like Grant Morrison’s work or Vertigo titles, this series might appeal to you. Again, like X-Force, a very interesting, atypical Marvel comic. Raze
303-309 This is going to be the first “Event” I collect in recent times. I think I might have done War Games, I know I read them but dont remember how. Anyway I really loving the setup so far! Detective was cool in the fact that Bats did so detective work and the action as fun. Nightwing is good but Ive heard since he got shot in the head its not been a good story, but I think I like how it working out. Tomorrow I start part 1 of Joker War!!! Popular Post srezvan
I just finished the Black September Preview, All-New Exiles Vol 2 Infinity, All-New Exiles Vol 2 #1-6, and All-New Exiles vs. X-Men #1. This series is not great. Why would I read this, you ask? Well, I read the first collected edition of the long-running Exiles series, and it was really good, but has nothing to do with this series. Where to start? Rough '90s art trying to imitate the look of New Mutants/X-Force...you know who I mean...and really choppy stories. Even the X-Men vs. issue was completely random and not entertaining. I like the Marvel characters (Juggernaut, Sienna Blaze, and Reaper), but the art and story line are rough. I still have 5 issues left, then the two part ending crossover in other Ultraverse titles. I had to put this aside for now. It's funny how slogging through something you don't like really slows down the reading progress. Ugh. Up next, I'm reading the Chaser Platoon TPB. I hope it's good. Popular Post RayJr
I’ve read a few books already for 2020 but I will just say book 1 is Marvel Preview #3. Today I picked this gem up because I’m a Blade fan. It was interesting reading this awesome 72 page story by Chris Claremont & learning more about him in his beginning in the comic world. Totally different from how he became the Blade we saw on the big screen. Ken Aldred, cgcsketcherz, Raze and 3 others
Ken Aldred
211 to 214 Wolverine mini-series 1 to 4, 1982 Despite being a huge Chris Claremont fan, this is one of my least favourite stories of his. I’ve tried reading it again, but it still just feels cold, plodding and boring to me. Frank Miller’s artwork is brilliant, of course, but I don’t like the inking style at all, and at times it really does soften his pencils far too much. Having seen some of the original pencil art, that's much more detailed, harder and grittier-looking, and would’ve been much better left alone. Despite its classic status, I've never managed to get into this one. Talapas1, theCapraAegagrus and Raze

Popular Post ttfitz
My local comic shop manager has a thing he does every August, the Troy-David 100 Back Issue a Week Challenge. Each week in August (along with an extra 4 says of September to make an even 5 weeks) you try to read 100 of your back issues. I've done it the last 3 years, and was getting ready to do it again this year when I saw this thread. So I said to myself, Self, 2 birds. So, before this starts tomorrow, here's what I've read so far this year: (1-33) Starslayer 1-26, 28-34 Originally I had bought this title only for the Grimjack backup stories that appeared for a period of time, but I went back and got the rest and read the whole run. Skipped 27 since it was all Black Flame, a backup that I never really warmed up to (HA). And speaking of the Grimjack backups, next we have: (34-114) Grimjack 1-81 One of my favorite of all time, the story of a former gladiator/demon hunter/cop/bounty hunter/spy in the pandimensional city of Cynosure, where all the dimensions meet. As the tag goes, guns work in some places, magic in others, swords work everywhere. A great series, and I don't think I've ever read a better first issue of a series - does a perfect job introducing you to the main character, the setting, the premise, and many supporting characters. I had bought my daughter an almost complete run of Grimjack, including the Starslayer issues, and due to being stuck at home over the last few months, she started reading them, which is why I decided to reread. (115-142) Classic X-Men 2-43 (partial) I'm only counting this as 28 issues because at first I just skimmed thru the main story which I had read before, and read the new backup material. But as time went on, particularly after the Phoenix showed up, I read more and more of the main reprint part, until we got to where Mastermind began his manipulation of Jean, and I was reading the whole thing. The reprints are most definitely "Classic" X-Men, and in the backups, Claremont does a great job of adding extra detail and flavor to the storyline from before. (143-158) Fantastic Four 101-116 In a previous Challenge I had read issues 1-100, and I was sorting my collection recently, and read a few more. In a similar fashion, continuing from previous Challenge readings, I read (all of these are from the volume 1 of each title): (159-160) Avengers 21-22 (161-165) Batman 284, 285, 287, 288, 311 (166-178) Superman 233-238, 240-243,247,251,252 Finally, my daughter had someone recommend Saga to her, and she recommended it to me. I've read the first 18 issues so far in the digital collection, and will continue during the Challenge. So, that puts the total at 196 for the moment.
