Bill has updated the Best of for 2019 and its now open to all CAF members. It has moved from The Lowry (Lowry still exists).

The "Best Of" competition provides CAF Collector's the opportunity to highlight their 5 most important acquisitions from the prior year. After the submission period ends, CAF's community votes on the artworks that they feel are the most compelling from the seven possible categories and once the voting period closes we tally the results to see which artworks are awarded the Best of 2019. There are no real awards at this time - only the prestige of being recognized by your peers. Maybe one day there will be!

The annual "Best Of" competition has been hosted on ComicArtFans.com for many years in the Lowry Gallery. For a brief history of the Lowry Gallery please click here. When the Best Of began it was only available to Lowry members, but starting in 2020 the competition is now open to all CAF Members. Those Members who choose to participate will be able to submit up to 5 "Best Of" entries which keeps this in line with the Lowry's original mission of highlighting the best artworks in your collection, and voting for all 7 categories begins on 1/14/2020.

A suggestion for the future: Please add a category for Complete Stories.

The most depressing aspect of this hobby is the willful breaking up of classic stories, to the point where Scott Dunbier can't find complete John Byrne or Dave Cockrum stories for his artists editions.  It'd be nice if there was at least a little recognition of this in the hobby, even if most people don't give a damn.

Entering a splash page in this contest, as a representative of a story, would be stupid.  It'd be like entering the opening credits sequence for a movie into a movie contest.

So few complete stories bought by collectors there wouldnt be enough entries for a specific category. Any new categories must be able to get at least a dizen entries.

I think there are more people buying complete stories than you think.  Felix has sold something like 100 or so in recent years.

I don't see many people posting complete stories. They would pick individual panel page or splashes from the story to submit and not a whole book. If its some historic or nostalgic story, that would be a reason to post. And more likely older stories with dialog as opposed to modern ones without dialog.
Big difference from buying a complete story and submitting it whole as your best acquisition of the year. Besides CAF is not setup to post complete stories as a single entry.

You have just about convinced me to read the trade.

I just got the Treasury edition today and it is brilliant. Perfect format for 5 issues, and the first thing I’ve seen Marvel put out that may compete with DC’s absolute and Black Label formats.

:gossip: they arent posting them on caf if they are buying them..

I'm not sure how much of any of the art I sell ends up on CAF. It can be a different crowd (although there is some crossover).

Regardless, I do post all art on my site, including all sold art. Like complete issues and commissions, so people can still check them out. For that matter, not sure how many commissions are ending up on CAF, either...and we move a ton of those, as well.

If you posted in CAF on January you will NOT be allowed to post in Best of this year. It uses the same mechanism and Featured Gallery. You select a piece posted during 2019 and it will appear in the Best of 2019.
