Best of 2019 One Day Left to Vote....

32 posts in this topic

Here are the instructions:

1) Goto https://www.comicartfans.com/Login.asp

2) Login in  (You MUST be registered in 2019 to vote)

3) Goto https://www.comicartfans.com/bestofyr.asp

4) Select from one of the Best of 2019 categories:
    Published/Unpublished: Covers
    Published: Splash Pages, Pinups
    Published: Interior Panel Pages
    Published: Strip Art
    Published/Unpublished: Commissions
    Unpublished: Sketch Covers/Convention Sketches
    Unpublished/Published: Other

5) Look through the entries for that category and pick up to 5 (yes 5 votes per category)

6) At the top of each category is 5 pulldown menus showing all the pieces of art from the Category you are in. Be aware of the instructions on the page. You will only be able to vote ONE time. If you only pick two pieces and leave the rest blank you will not be able to come back and pick any more.

7) Once you have selected all of your choices, click on "Cast My Vote"

8) After you vote, click the 'Best of' link to return to the Category listing. Once you vote, the pulldowns on the Category page to vote will no longer be there. Please don't ask us to vote again or change your votes.

It is as simple as that. No one can vote again for that category since the link wont appear. We are tracking the UserID of the person voting so they can never vote again for a Category.

9) Go onto the next category. Repeat steps 6-8 for the other 6 categories.

Voting starts Monday, Today
Voting end Sunday, January 19th at 11:59 PM EST

Email me or PM with any questions or problems.
A big thanks goes out to Bill and his team for getting this together.

Is there somewhere to see how many votes a piece has as it receives votes or is that only tallied in private to determine winners?

We have never done that. We do not want to influence the voters. All will have to wait until after the polls close.

By the way the number of views is not how many viewed it when entries were being accepted for the Best of 2019 entry. View count combines the views during 2019 in the owners CAF and in Best of. Some might have been posted in December and other in January. So views do not alway show how popular a piece it. Vote on what you like not on what is popular.

I'll be doing this in stages for posting purposes.  Spoilt for choice in this opening category, with lots of worthy entries not quite making it to the final five (and I don't do 'honourable mentions').  In no particular order

Appreciate it!  The Frazetta remains the gem of my collection...

The problem I am having this year with the big surge in entries (due to just being able to select pieces from regular galleries) is that there are too many to narrow down to just a few per category. So while I am browsing and loving all of the art, I'm not going to vote this year. I just don't have time to try to whittle it down with a billion tabs open.

If the large number of entries continues next year, I would recommend changing the voting system to something similar to what we do here on the boards for BUDGET... As you go through the listings in a category, you can Like or Vote for as many pieces as you want. If something catches your eye, you click Vote right then and move onto the next piece. Then, all of the totals are tallied up.

Overall, the middle will get lifted up with more overall votes, showing more diversity and breadth of tastes, while the top will still be the top.

But most importantly, an individual voter doesn't have to spend time ordering their own selects down to just 3, 5, x, etc.

I like the idea of voting while browsing. Maybe a 5 star voting system? Vote any where from 1-5 stars (or no vote) on a piece and you can vote as many as you like. Tally points for a winner? This probably adds more overhead work than Bill might want to take on but it may be worth it as evidence by how many more entries this year due to the ease of entering. Make voting easier and you may have more activity there as well. Or not.
