Comic book storylines

I’m a fairly old school collector, used to be that if there was some big storyline in comics, the main characters involved would see a bump in value. Nowadays it’s solely based on which obscure character or theme will be in the next movie. My question is do comic storylines have any effect whatsoever on comic book prices anymore?

I think so but also a lot of value is driven by spec books...

but a good story book with new characters can influence variants or a run on 1st prints (speaking from my limited modern collecting knowledge)

So let's say The Corruptor is the be-all, end-all villain of the next big Marvel Universe ending event, will Nova 4 skyrocket vs him being the villain in the Nova movie? That's more what I was getting at.

Speculators will inflate the price in either scenario
