"Monster Hunter" Posters First Look at Director Paul W.S. Anderson Movie with Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa

The Monster Hunter franchise has been a major hit for games publisher Capcom since its Playstation 2 debut in 2004. In the game, players take the role of a Hunter, whose task is to protect a local village or area from Monsters — giant creatures of varying sizes, natures, and abilities. With the Monster Hunter series becoming Capcom's second-biggest seller (next to Resident Evil) in 2019, it seems the perfect time to make the jump to feature film. The storyline in the film centers around  a character named Captain Natalie Artemis (Milla Jovivich) and her loyal soldiers, who are transported to a world where they engage in battle with Monsters.

Jovovich gave us a little look at her Monster Hunter character, Captain Natalie Artemis.

Captain Natalie Artemis is a member of a United Nations military team which falls into a portal and ends up on another world — the Monster World. They join with another group — which likely includes Tony Jaa's character The Hunter — to defend this portal and prevent the monsters from using it to invade Earth.

Monster Hunter is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and stars Milla Jovivich as Captain Natalie Artemis, Tony Jaa as The Hunter, Clifford "T.I" Harris Jr as Link and Ron Perlman as Admiral.  The film is scheduled for release by Sony Pictures on September 4, 2020 in the United States.  Monster Hunter is produced by Screen Gems, in association with Impact Pictures, Constantin Film, Tencent Pictures, and Toho — which is a company that knows a thing or two about giant monsters.

Had the coronavirus pandemic not come around and crippled the movie theater industry, by now you'd have no doubt seen the Monster Hunter movie and perhaps developed a hot take on the subject. Sony Pictures delayed the film's release earlier this summer so you'll have to wait to deliver your spicy meatball of an opinion on the movie in the spring of next year. To make up for the fact that you're not getting to watch a new Milla Jovovich vehicle from the writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson that's based on a video game, the studio has released a new synopsis for the film with even more details on its plot (which seems as different from the source material as the Resident Evil series).

"Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown."

Monster Hunter will now release on April 23, 2021, a delay of over seven months from its original release date of September 4th, 2020. This push by Sony is just the latest delay from the studio and follows a comment from Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman Tony Vinciquerra, who made it clear they won't be releasing any of their big budget films into theaters until it's safe for all audiences to enjoy them.

"What we won't do is make the mistake of putting a very, very expensive $200 million movie out in the market unless we're sure that theaters are open and operating at significant capacity," Vinciquerra said during Bank of America’s 2020 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference

The first teaser trailer for Monster Hunter shows off Milla Jovovich's upcoming video game movie. Based on the wildly popular Capcom video game franchise, Jovovich is reteaming with Resident Evil director Paul W.S. Anderson to bring Monster Hunter to the big screen. The movie was officially announced in 2016 and started filming near the end of 2018. Sony Pictures originally announced a September 2020 release date for Monster Hunter.

Heading into 2020, fans of the video games were interested to see what Monster Hunter will look like. There have already been promotional stills from the movie showing Jovovich as Artemis and Tony Jaa as The Hunter, but then coronavirus struck. Sony made the announcement a few months ago that Monster Hunter had been delayed and would now hit theaters on April 23, 2021. This was a big blow to those excited to see the movie in 2020, but now the first trailer for Monster Hunter reveals it has been moved back up to 2020.

IGN exclusively revealed the first teaser trailer for Monster Hunter today. Although it is only 16 seconds long, the trailer features the first look at the Diablos and several cast members. But, the trailer also confirmed that Monster Hunter will now be released in theaters in December 2020.

Saw this movie last night. Actually a very entertaining movie. But more about setting up a franchise than standing on its own merits. Meaning it leave certain character details out to maintain a mystery forced to future films.

But still worth watching. And solid monster CGI.

I rented it. Monsters were well done. For some reason I had a problem with the fact that Milla ended up in a Humvee either rolling over or falling through the air and rolling over or being kicked by a monster and rolling over a dozen times and she’s all good. When anyone who’s ever been in an up-armored Humvee lightly bangs their head just getting in it and needs 5 minutes to recover.

I do not miss those vehicles

But I got the feeling humans transported to that planet that survived a monster attack became something more powerful. When the two main characters fight one another and they are leaping around, that was beyond normal capabilities. The story just didn't take the time to outline this.

Even when they are standing there with those big flaming weapons, it was clear it took more than a normal person to wield these. But why??!
