Who ever posted the bum gun and toilet needs to understand how that is used. I have traveled in Singapore Iraq Africa. All around. In Iraq I almost lost my marbles I’m a bathroom ad people spray their bum and fecal water puddles fly everywhere- floor, ceiling. And the next person comes and sticks it up their bum and sprays mud.  Seriously, man, no.

You’re own house. Only you use it. Ok. My wife was so thrilled she took a bowel movement in a Singapore squatty potty she came runing out for joy. I was just never brave enough. Just spray mud everywhere?

The squatty potty is actually the healthiest way to go but If your every bowel movement is a mud spraying you're doing it wrong and might want it checked out.

Yep.  This is going to devastating to a lot of businesses.

However, for lower paid workers who are losing jobs, Safeway in the SF Bay Area is seeking to employ 2,000.  Nationwide, Amazon is now seeking to employ another 100,000.  So all those low paid restaurant workers may have an option.

The announcement is for three weeks in SF Bay Area.  But, it could be longer based on the latest change of story from D.C.

President Donald Trump said Monday that the U.S. may be able to get the new coronavirus outbreak under control by July or August at the earliest.

Trump, speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room, also said his administration may look at lockdowns for “certain areas” or “hot spots” in the nation. But the president said he wasn’t considering a full national lockdown. “At this moment, no, we’re not,” Trump said.  ....

Equities plunged as Trump spoke, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing down nearly 13%.

Apparently I have to learn how to ZOOM - but because this place is so disjointed, we are supposedly using multiple platforms at the same time.   (shrug)

Using Zoom - with Google... and now using a third and also posting things in redundancy elsewhere.

Some of us are not as technologically adept as others.

very commendable.

Agree but don't let paying your employees put you out of business.  That won't help them in the long run if they lose their jobs permanently.

If anyone cares to join, there's a thread in the Watercooler to discuss economic ramifications of the Coronavirus outbreak.

With each day, world leaders and other policy makers, business people and ordinary citizens are trying to find solutions to this unprecedented event.

Most of us are going to struggle to dig ourselves out of it.

Feel free to add if you have anything beneficial.

Five weeks ago I cut shelf copies in half at FOC. Two weeks ago I cut them by 75%. FOC yesterday I chopped 90% off what I would normally have.

Instead of 500 or so shelf copies between 70 titles in a given week, I’ve cut from 250 to 125 and now to 50. I’ll miss some potential profits. But I won’t get stuck with a grand a week in tombstones.

To be honest I wish I’d have cut a little deeper 5 weeks ago. But it’s the only part of the weekly Diamond invoice I can really finetune (other than choosing to wait on reorders of things like Watchmen, Saga, and My Hero Academia when I get low on stock).

Rent is still due. I’m still paying my employees whether they work or not. Still paying utilities. The only expense I can adjust is inventory.

And the balance between the short term and the long term is the trick.

My brother is basically 'done'.  He is a professional poker player.  He is not the "degenerate-take-your-paycheck-to-the-table-after-taking-your-watch-to-the-pawn-shop" player.  With casinos closed and tournaments slowing to a standstill combined with the decline of the stock market, he is looking for something at the age of 42.  He has made a pretty successful career for himself doing what he does since he was 23? 24?

i can imagine the talent he has, to be that good.

he would make a great counselor with minimal training, and be able to help a lot of people.

he would be very good at risk calculation, and actuarial services. a lot of large companies employ such persons with pro poker talent on his scale, and actively look for persons with his skill. insurance companies definitely prefer that kind of skill, because he knows how to decipher personalities, crunch numbers in his head, cut thru the risk numbers to the real question of should we or shouldn't we.

there is also the opportunity to write, both immediately via blogs or paper media and in the  long term, books

 i envy his natural ability.
