Favorite Copper Age runs from various Marvel titles.

Gotta say, does anyone else here agree that the Copper Age is when readers saw the collective rise of various series at Marvel becoming more dramatically and emotionally compelling? I definitely think that's when they started finding more solid directions to go in and were consistent in showcasing engaging storytelling. In particular, these are some of my favorite runs:

Amazing Spider-Man - Tom DeFalco

Avengers - Roger Stern

Captain America - Mark Gruenwald

Daredevil - Frank Miller

Fantastic Four - John Byrne

Incredible Hulk - Peter David

Iron Man - Dennis O'Neil

Thor - Walt Simonson

Uncanny X-Men - Chris Claremont

Punisher War Journal's 1-20 were awesome.  Stories, art, and everything.  I also loved the Portacio issues from the regular series.  8, 9, and 10 were my favorites.  The Daredevils from 250 to about 280 or so were great as well.  The Wolverine regular series was pretty fantastic until about issue 48 were they started the ret-con of his past.  Issue number 10, the first battle with Sabretooth, I must have read over a 100 times front to back.  It single-handedly made Sabretooth the nastiest villian in the Marvel Universe.  And what did they do?  They ripped the whole story apart over a drecky stretch of 20 issues.

Couldn't agree with you more regarding Walt Simonson's run of Thor.  I'm working on completing the run but missing the last few books.

"He stood alone at Gjallerbru... ...and that answer is enough."

Everybody here either knows exactly what that means... or I envy you, because someday you'll get to see that scene for the first time.  It's definitely my all time favorite scene in a superhero comic in over forty years of reading them; it may be my favorite scene in any work of art ever.  It really is just that stunning.

Couldn't agree more about McFarlane ASM and Hulk. Both short lived, but beautiful!  Second place goes to Man Of Steel.

I love the Michelenie/Romita Jr/Layton run.

Byrne on FF
Zeck on Captain America

And although it's DC, I don't think the Ostrander/Mandrake Spectre series gets nearly enough credit.

I'm not suggesting that modern Marvel and DC are crap because i know that isn't true across the board (Besides, there's garbage in every era) but if both of those companies were presenting comic stories like these, I'd still be happily buying new comics.

There are other reasons why I no longer buy new comics but I think I would be able to overlook those things if the comics read and looked more like the ones from the 70s and 80s.
