ebay even all in and bid your max amount of $100

You didn't technically spend $100 on a comic

after fee's you  only spent $87

Heritage it would look like you spent $80 but get charged $100

Looks different in format, but is the same principle

20% it outrageous

It's not, though. Your final bid on eBay is final. There are no added fees outside of taxes.

This is no different on Heritage..... except it's laid out where and how the bid money is distributed....

Ebay you don't even get that disclosure

If you bid $1k on Heritage - you're paying taxes and more. If you bid $1k on eBay - you're only paying taxes (where applicable).

and this is not true either

because if you were going to bid $1000 on Heritage....

your bid would be for $800......

because the 20% buyers premium would mean you'd be charged $1000.....

No different the total is $1000, just laid out different between the 2 different platforms....

If you bid $800 on heritage, the bid is still $1000, same as if you bid $1000 on ebay

it's weird that people can say that they'll bid $800 and be charged 20% more, and still say their bid was only $800

no

your bid was $800 + 20% buyers premium.... lol which is close to $1000

so you would say you bought it for $1000

If you bid $800, with BP it is $960 not $1000

Not on Ebay.

There's nothing to disclose, the final bid is what you pay. There's no BP on Ebay.

That is incorrect. you're paying 13% more to buy on ebay due to fees, especially with buy it now

You might not think so

No because I don't consider HA's buying privilege fee to be part of the comic's price.

that's not up to you it's up to the seller to determine price

What are you talking about? I think you're confusing buying and selling.

I can show you specifically every Dave and Adams comic for sale on their site is one price

on ebay it's exactly 13% more

Are you on mushrooms this morning?

no lol I just have a sense of what I'm trying to get across

And if i'm not doing that justice I'll bow out..... :)

There is a reason there are 2 different distinct opinions on this subject and I was trying to convey the reason why....

Wasn't trying to influence you or be under the influence as you suggest :tink:

not interested in arguing either (thumbsu

I was beginning to wonder what new accounting math you were using?  Please pull the IRS rules on determining cost basis.

Better yet how do you enter the cost into quickbooks?

Comic purchase - $800

What is the $160 entry ?  Expense?  Fee?  Tax?

I bid $100 for an Ebay item and win for $100. I send a check for $100 plus tax and s+h. Done.

Where is this extra 13% coming from?

You've had that explained to you for 2t pages :slapfight:

Well that's more eloquent but still pretty hurtful lol

No, I haven't, because I think you are extremely confused. Explain this imaginary 13% because Ebay has no BP.

He is explaining the seller side of the transaction.

Book sells for $100,  ebay takes 10%,  paypal 3% = $87

To you your cost is $100 plus sales tax if applicable.

Not sure how else to explain it

Luckily I'm a comic book collector so I don't have to do any of that lol

Well when you go to sell your collection and are determining the "cost basis" when you are calculating your long term capital gains amount you owe the IRS you better get a clear understanding.
