Everytime I go to Sam's and see "New York Texas Toast", a staple for our spaghetti dinners, I think of the Pace Picante Sauce commercial from the late 80's; New York City!

How bad do you want his Signature and or how much is the price pump vs the risk of damage to book and cost?

If a press can't help is the book a sure thing to come back a 9.4? Is book a 9.3 or is it a 9.4 9.5? Can't tell you what to do but I gave you your answer. Answer those ?s then make a decision.

With this one will a press help?  Yes. I have pressed a few things and I see where it helps and where it does not.  I have a hulk 181 that was 6.5 when I sent it in the first time before cgc and ccs were the same company. When I learned of the pressing I sent it in again and it came back an 8.   My GSXMen has no color breaks on the spine and has a few paper bumps and  indentations that a press would definitely remove.  Hell my fat rear end would probably improve it.  Now will it get a grade bump?  Don't know. But I don't see it hurting

If you're going to do it at that value, buy the gradere notes too, if there are any to cover all your bases...

It would be interesting. Are there any examples to base it off of sales wise? Personally though, I wouldn't buy it. I would go for a blue label or one with a signature of someone with a more direct connection to the issue or moment.

Press sounds like a no brainer then. Signature dunno. If you dont press yourself then its ship to press, ship back, take to con, have to survive the con assembly line, cgc handles it, gets graded. Shipped back. A lot of shipping and insurance if you insure.

while I'm thankful for the thread, I didn't have the guts to start it and just did my own research

live and learn.... just like my thumb from the noodles

The 2nd of 3 times I went over $500 in a purchase... it's a tough decision with nist saying don't do it

As I said the page Turner for me was the flat fee.

To me, after learning about claremont's involvement, its a no brainer.  again  Romita sr on Hulk 181  uncredited head drawing, but people get it done.  im one of them.  I agree the stan lee on everything is a little nuts.  Pressing the book when its in the hands of one place is fine with me  90 dollars to press, sign and grade with a yellow label is too much to resist.

The ending is the hardest thing to write into any story...unless you write the ending first, which then the entire story has to fit into place or the reader will never pick up another book by the author...Claremont revolutionized the Xmen, and writing the end of the story to GSX is impactful, but is it massively impactful? I'm not so sure...I was actually shocked to see his name on GSX

 

Todd McFarlane story is in reverse...ASM 300 revolutionized Spiderman bringing the whole alien symbiote black suit to a whole new level in Venom...but everything after that just watered down the symbiote race....even going so far as to write in Anti Venom....

That being said GSX is Strong enough on it's own, but if people want Claremont sig gracing the cover I don't think many will judge them

As someone who joined the boards b/c I was looking to get books signed and what not, here's my .

I've been collecting comics for 30 years at this point.  Recently (whenever it was I joined these boards) I decided I was in a good enough financial position to go out and buy some of those expensive books I always dreamed of having as a kid.  One of those books was a Silver Surfer #1 (SS is my absolute favorite character of all time).  Well, I went out and I bought a CGC 7.5 blue label and I went and got it signed by Stan and Joe Sinnott.  The sigs are great.  Fantastic placement and both in silver (because he's the Silver Surfer, not the Gold Surfer).  I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't happy with the book.  I just pulled it out and looked at it and I love it.  But I'd also be lying if I didn't tell you that I wish I had a blue label to go with it.  So many books are signed these days that it feels like the number of high grade blue label books keeps shrinking.  And if you're thinking about resale down the road, a blue label is going to have a larger market for demand than a yellow label.  Mind you, I only feel this way about older keys (Giant Size X-Men included).  Print runs on key modern books are so high that it hardly matters, not to mention their values are "cheap" to begin with.  If I get X-Men #1 signed by Jim, Scott, and Chris, I can just as easily find a replacement for less than $10.  (okay, terrible example since it's the highest printed book of all time).  But Batman #608 is the same.  'Tec 880 might be a little more difficult to replace, but you get the idea.  They're cheaper to find blue labels than me going out and buying a blue SS#1 or you finding another Giant Size X-Men #1 CGC 9.4.  Long story short, I would say no, don't get it signed.

Besides, have you seen Chris' sig?  It's not what I would call...legible.
