Automatic green label or is there a choice?

If you send a book with a major defect, missing marvel coupon, missing page, etc. Can you choose between a low grade blue label and and higher qualified green? Or are there situations that dictate it will always be one and not the other?

Quick story: I had a handful of ASM 20's in my stash... two of them had the poster clipped out (and I never noticed... d'oh!!!).

One of those came back 7.0 green, one came back 0.5 blue. I cracked the 0.5 and sold it raw (it was probably VG condition). Got about $200 for it, which was way better than what 0.5 Blue's sell for.

Bottom line: I would specify which you want. In general, if it's a high grade book otherwise, I'd get the green. If it's VG or less, I'd leave it raw.
