Really good show...not The Office level but very funny.

:D

Agreed on it not being to the level of The Office. But still appropriate for the current times.

Those scenes were too funny. Especially when the point of focus got frustrated, and started smacking the drill on the satellite.

Maybe I should give this show a second chance.  I got about half way thru the 1st episode and switched to something else since it crossed the line into just plain dumb.

Planes aren't dumb. People are dumb.

Although the personal plane concept for better human air intake had potential.

I finished all 10 episodes just to experience everything near-term.

It's a satire of big government, modern events and the military establishment. Although not a steady flow of comedy, it still have some really funny scenes throughout to keep you coming back.

Will most probably land a Season 2 if Netflix and the creative team want to keep it going. There are some many themes they can tackle across those three focuses.

Some of the biggest questions from Space Force season 1 was why Maggie Naird was in prison, a topic that the show dances around quite a bit. The character, played by Lisa Kudrow, served as the wife of Steve Carell's General Mark Naird, the leader of the new Space Force branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Carell also co-created the Netflix series alongside Greg Daniels, who he previously worked with on The Office.

Maggie was first introduced in the Space Force premiere when a ceremony was being held for Mark as he was made a 4-star general of the Air Force. She, along with her teenage daughter Erin (Diana Silvers), were in attendance just before her husband was made the Chief of Space Operations. The series then jumped a year later to when the Naird family relocated to Colorado, where Space Force's headquarters were. While Mark and Erin were acclimating to their new surroundings, it was revealed that Maggie was in a nearby prison.

As the series went on, it was expected that the details regarding Maggie's jail sentence would come into focus, but that wasn't the case. The reason for her sentence was never directly explained. Instead, she remained in the facility as her husband and daughter visited her from time to time. The ambiguous situation was intentional as explained in an interview (via The Wrap) with Daniels. He stated that "at the moment, we’re kind of enjoying the mystery around it and the question marks that it raises." Daniels also added that the explanation into why Maggie was in prison isn't included in the debut season. That said, there were a few clues that viewers should make note of.

When Mark first told his wife that they would be leaving Washington, D.C. for Wild Horse, Colorado, Maggie felt such dismay that she started crying. This presented the notion that she was heavily against the idea from the start. While interacting with her family throughout Space Force, Maggie mentioned she would be in prison for a "long time" before the series stated that she was sentenced to 40-60 years, which is just a notch lower than a life sentence. Based on the "very serious" conviction, some have theorized that she was involved in a kidnapping, drug trafficking, or some type of fraud, if not treason.

Series creator Greg Daniels says that he is already working on ideas for Space Force season 2, even though it hasn't been ordered by Netflix yet. Daniels, who co-created The Office and Parks and Recreation, re-teamed with The Office star Steve Carell for the 10-episode series on Netflix. Daniels launched Space Force just a few weeks after his Amazon Prime show Upload, with the latter debuting to more positive reviews than the star-studded Netflix parody.

Space Force follows Carell's General Naird, the Chief of Operations at Space Force, as he and a motley crew of characters attempt to make a success of the newest branch of the armed services. The show takes aim at U.S. President Donald Trump's new real-life Space Force, and makes many allusions to Trump's less-than-conventional leadership style. It also stars John Malkovich as Dr. Mallory, Ben Schwartz as F. Tony, Diana Silvers as Erin Naird and Tawny Newsome as Captain Angela Ali.

Space Force has yet to be renewed by Netflix, but despite this, Daniels says he is already working on ideas for season 2. In an interview with Collider, Daniels revealed that he feels there is enough material for a few more seasons, and has already been in touch with some senior writers to flesh out his ideas for season 2. He goes on to say: "We don’t have the pickup yet, but yeah. There’s a lot to follow up on based on where we ended."

This was the funniest episode by far. The least funny was the Space Force vs Air Force war games episode. It was awful.

Spoiler

One thing that had me scratching my head was the open relationship between General Naird and his wife. For her, sure, it's fine. For him, adultery would fall under a general article of the Uniform Code of Military Conduct. The maximum penalty is fairly hefty. There's no way that behavior would be ignored from a general officer, especially a 5-star. Then again, he'd never get that position with his wife doing long, hard time so I suppose there's some suspension of disbelief required.

Netflix Reportedly Renews Space Force For Season 2

Quote

Netflix has reportedly renewed Space Force for season 2. What's On Netflix is the source of this report, with the site stating that, "Space Force, one of Netflix’s most controversial comedy series, has reportedly been renewed for a second season. This news comes from a source of ours that has proven to be credible. They previously told us that Netflix’s Warrior Nun, Ozark, and Fate: A Winx Saga have all been renewed. Netflix has already confirmed that Ozark has been renewed." Word of Space Force's renewal might be somewhat shocking to some fans, as the series had lukewarm reaction from critics, and seemed to come and go rather quickly.

On the other hand, Space Force did debut well, quickly shooting to the top of Netflix's Top 10 in the US on its premiere weekend, and staying in that top 10 lineup for a pretty good clip. The caveat to that, however, is that a Netflix series' success is typically measured in the amount of lasting social media buzz it generates - and Space Force has generated little to none. There aren't a lot of clips or memes from the show going viral on social media, and word-of-mouth hasn't really made it a "mainstream" breakthrough - even with the extremely limited content options during the coronavirus pandemic.

This season 2 renewal could be yet another show of (over)confidence by Netflix; this season 2 greenlight is the best incentive we've had to remember that Space Force season 1 is still available. Now that viewers know a second season is coming, it'll be interesting to see if there's an uptick in views on the first season.

SPACE FORCE!

Quote

Netflix is returning to space.

The streaming giant has renewed its Steve Carell-led comedy Space Force for a second season. Production on the pricey comedy will move from Los Angeles to Vancouver in a bid to reduce the show's budget. Filming will begin next year. A return date has not yet been determined.

As part of a larger creative revamp, Norm Hiscock has also joined the series and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Greg Daniels. Hiscock, a frequent collaborator with Daniels, counts Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation, People of Earth and King of the Hill among his credits. The hope, per sources, is that a second season will allow Space Force the runway to grow creatively and better connect with viewers and critics alike much in the same way The Office broke out in its subsequent seasons. In addition to Hiscock, co-star Jimmy O. Yang has also joined the Space Force writing staff.

Inspired by Trump's order to establish the space force as the sixth military branch, Space Force was co-created by Carell and his former The Office showrunner Daniels. Picked up straight to series in January 2019, Space Force at the time set a record for talent as Carell's deal for the series topped $1 million per episode when factoring in fees for co-creating, exec producing and acting.

With The Office ranking as one of Netflix's most-watched acquired series — sources note that it often collects more viewers than some of its originals — the streamer stepped up after hearing Carell was ready to return to series-regular television and aggressively pursued Space Force. The show was not shopped elsewhere. The renewal also arrives as The Office is poised to move from Netflix to Peacock starting in 2021.

Filming has officially begun on Netflix's Space Force season 2 — with actor Ben Schwartz posting a new image with castmates in celebration. Created by Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, the series followed the eclectic crew of the titular government agency. Space Force premiered on the streaming service on May 29, 2020. Despite mixed reviews, it proved nonetheless popular with viewers and was renewed for a second season in November 2020.

Filming has now officially begun on Space Force season 2. In honor of that fact, Schwartz (who played the agency's social media director) posted a candid behind-the-scenes image to Instagram. All smiles, Schwartz could be seen in a line with fellow cast members Don Lake, Tawny Newsome, Jimmy O. Yang, and Diana Silvers.
