I noticed a number of the books in this thread have been re-glossed. Was that a common early restoration technique? Anyone know how it was done. I have one book like that and while it looks nice the cover feels heavy.

I imagine that it's brushed on by professionals, rolled on by amateurs, or sprayed on by holes.

If it's heavy, maybe yours was brushed or rolled?
