Does anyone else collect adult covers?

I used to read occasional comics as a kid. G.I. Joe, Superman, Spiderman, ect.

Comics never were a big thing to me, as I was pretty broke as a young kid, and started working at 13. By then my passion was for things that ran on gasoline.

Now in my not so young years, I find MUCH appreciation for the cover art of several different comics, like Grimm Fairy Tales, Notti and Nyce, Lookers, and similar. It's not the, uh, "pornish" theme, but the stunning art and female form. Some, like most Cave Woman covers, are too cartoonish, and I'm not a huge fan. But I enjoying today's cover art, more then when I was a kid. Not to say that there is anything wrong with any of it, just doesn't have the appeal to me.

I'm sure this will get a few snickers from some, or the eye roll, but I do think some of these comics are real works of art and I intend to slab much of this to keep it preserved so it can be enjoyed years down the road.

I enjoy the female form. I prefer more mainstream covers like Supergirl 23, Superior Spider-Man 20, Wonder Woman 38. All of those are excellent quality art and have sexual undertones but don’t cross the line. Nobody draws boobs like Hughes. I like to leave a little to the imagination because I know exactly what is under those tight outfits. The slight mystery of it makes it better to me. But I’m not a hater. Enjoy what you like best.

Grimm Fairy Tales certainly has enough market value at 9.8 (at least for the first couple issues) to suggest that someone else out there is actively collecting. I assume that some of the (many) limited variants would have some value too (although mostly not later in the run, where everything looks like it curves down to slab cost).

There are no shortage of other characters who are at least somewhat adult that are actively collected. Vampirella. Dawn. Early appearance of Lady Death (helps that her first appearance in Evil Ernie 1 is also Ernie's first appearance, but regardless, that's a very not-cheap book in high grade). Ebay has at least reasonable respectable prices for some of the variants of stuff like Notti & Nyce, although I don't know whether much actually sells at those prices. Halle the Hooters Girl is worth ... a few dollars, anyway, mostly for the controversy. On the other hand, stuff like Unholy or Hellina? Well, at least it would be cheap to pick up runs, right; good luck finding all the fiddly limited, though.

The stuff that comes on the safe edge of mainstream is likely to have more collectors' interest than material on the other side of the line, because the potential buying audience tends to be bigger. But yes, the short answer is that you're not the only collector of adult covers or mature comics in general.

For a couple of years I couldn't keep Zombie Tramp in stock. Met Mendoza a few times
great guy loves what he does.

Was surprised to see Zombie Tramp dealer's table at relatively small Fan expo Vancouver in Feb, 2020. They seem to travel all over pre-Covid to promote their comics, prints, calendars.

Back on topic: one can also collect cheesecake photo covers. e.g. Domino Lady #1 variant cover:

I don't collect them. But I loved the Penthouse Comix magazine-size series back in the 90s. Had my original copy of Issue 1 slabbed a few years back.

I think Penthouse comics went downhill pretty quickly, but the earliest issues just had a mind-blowing array of talent working on them.  Had a very Heavy Metal meets Mad Magazine vibe.
