Don’t know. I purchased it slabbed. Any opinions here? Maybe @adamstrange would know? :wishluck:

CGC is more likely to catch the pedigree designation when you include it on the submission form.  It looks like RC to me and I think I have or have seen the distributor mark in that format but I would have to hunt for it.  You can do a search on Heritage website for River City and see if there's a match on a different book.

I've never seen a river city that used a slash in the date.  Only a dash.  And the handwriting is a little different.  My semi-educated guess would be a no.

Many River City books were sent in to CGC before the pedigree was recognized.

I'll make a deal with you. Send the book in for a reholder and call it a River City book. If CGC disagrees and just reholders it, I'll pay for the reholder and shipping charges.

If they say it's a River City copy, the expenses are on you, and you have a slabbed River City copy.

Many thanks for pointing this Ped out to me! I think I will resubmit and would never expect any payment no matter what result! (worship)

The handwriting, form, and placement of the arrival date are consistent with some River City copies from this period.  Here are a couple of examples:

I've seen several "unacknowledged" River City specimens in CGC holders.  As adamstrange has noted, if the book is not identified as a pedigree on the CGC submission form, it may not be certified as such.

Thank you for the examples! My copy definitely seems to fall in line with the ones you’ve posted. The RC ped markings are hard to recognize (for me), as this is a cracked out River City (says on the CGC Label) but looks just like a squiggly line to me. And then I think I’ve seen slabbed copies with no marks at all!(shrug)

No expert, but the arrival date (or whatever the pencil mark is) doesn't seem to be in the style found on most RC books. hm

Not all River City books from the '50's have markings.

This is true.

This is also true (and it's great to see you back on the Boards :hi:).  There are a few different characteristic styles, but the most common is S-xx-xx (or L-xx-xx) on a single line:

What a run! Do we know the reasons for the different markings? Purchased from different stores or maybe different people in the same store logging the books in somewhat differently? I realize that we rarely know this kind of detail on any ped, but I've always found if fun to think about the details of what went on when a ped collection was being out together.

Wow! Just love this one. I was looking through the Bookery pulp guide and I hadn't realized just how active Saunders had been drawing pulp covers.
