I don't think I would have the nerve to tell a creator or anyone else I would want a signature from HOW to sign their name, other than where to place the signature on the book. If I come up to your table and am polite and professional and you tell me the only reason why I want the signature is to sell it on eBay, I’ll promptly tell you to shove it. It’s ridiculous how some of these guys act. Especially when you’re paying most of them for their sigs! He asked for an autograph. He was a little star struck. Morrison signed the piece of paper and left. My friend then looked at it and it was signed “Jim”... I think Claremont and gaiman might have already been in NYC at the time. That was the first time I realized there were actually female comic groupies given the number of attractive 16 - 22 year old women waiting on line to meet gaiman. Adam Hughes threw a fit when I was in his line once. I saw Marv Wolfman get pretty agitated once. I got mad and threw a temper tantrum at Arthur Suydam one year (I think at WWCh). I asked him to sign my copy of Cholly & Flytrap #1 and he told me that I needed to spend $30 at his table for an autograph. I'm pretty sure my response was "Dude, it's Cholly and Flytrap, not Marvel Zombies." He said no money, no auto, so i looked him right in the eye and threw the book in the trash. @mschmidt fished it out and gave it back to me later. He just couldn't stand me pitching a perfectly good comic . . . It's nice...maybe it's when colour is added to his work nowadays that makes me hate it. I can imagine that in colour and it would look terrible. At the end of the day, they are just normal people who have varying emotions. You can always catch someone on the wrong day or wrong time and you never know how someone is going to act. It's interesting that you put it that way. I have intermittently caught flak about getting things signed and not doing it in person. The idea being that conventional wisdom says "a signature should be be about having a moment with the creator." While that is certainly true sometimes, for me it was more about "collecting" the autographs - liked having them signed just like I liked autographed sports cards. I think I remember reading about some interesting things he had to say. Maybe I saw it on these boards, anyway It was something regarding the personal hygiene of either collectors in general or just the people in his line. Something about deodorant?
