If a High Grade Tec #27 Broke the World Record...

Hypothetically, if the CGC 9.2 copy became available for sale/auction, or another high grade Tec #27, and it set a new world record for the sale of a single comic book...

Would Tec #27s in all/most grades then jump ahead of Action #1 to become the No. 1 FMV book in the hobby?

The distribution of collectors at each level might be distinct. In other words, each auction has its own dynamics, bidder pool and signals. Plus, the Church Action 1 abides.

If so it would be for illogical reasons, because, among other facts, it wouldn't change the fact there is a Mile High Action 1 out there which is probably 9.2.

But the behavior of people is not always logical

Great topic for discussion. I think it would take 2 high sales of comparable grades to knock it from the top spot without argument. We also so don’t know if the Church would grade a 9.2 or 9.4.would beat it.  With 2 9.0’s begins the Church I think that makes the 9.2 Tec thst much more special. Next highest graded ?  8.0 ?  8.5 ??

I don't think a new record would undo AC1 as the holiest grail.. it's been lauded that way for decades even before Tec27 was considered that expensive.. AC1 has a lot going for it .. all these are understatements of course

So long as the Church Action #1 remains raw, we can only speculate.

9.2-9.4 may be a very real possibility, but it wouldn't take much to knock it down to 9.0-9.2 if the book is being handled raw. This happens to books all the time, ones that aren't as old as Action #1. We also don't know how well the 9.2 Tec #27 presents. It would be interesting to see the two books side by side to see which looks better.

But my question has just as much to do with the future of both two books as it does specific high grade copies. I've long suspected that a shift in FMV may happen when the generation that grew up loving Batman (and feeling less enthusiastic about Superman) grows old enough to dominate the high-end GA market. That's not going to happen for another 15-30 years or so.

But seeing a new world record set with the sale of a Tec #27 might give that shift an early push. With the two books holding somewhat similar value today, some may be hesitant to pay more for book 1-A than book 1-B. If a precedent is set in the high grade, it may trickle down to the lower grades.

While theoretically there may be a higher grade raw copy (its certainly not the Church), what we do know for sure is that there is a graded 9.2.  Is the raw one (Allentown) nicer than that?  Maybe, but it's not far fetched to say there is also the distinct possibility that it is not...

Reputedly it's much nicer than a 9.2.

Somebody very prominent in  grading has seen both books and said he felt the Action Church 1 would be Closer to a 9.4 than a 9.2, so let’s assume 9.4, while the Allentown Tec 27 he said is a lock at at least a 9.6!

If the Tec 27 is a cgc 9.6 it will blow the church Action 1 away at 9.4 hm
