Massive protests in every major city in the country over the last three weeks , Yet despite 10's of thousands of people in close contact over a long period of time, No spikes in these cities ……… Keep in mind, that like the virus, The information we receive is constantly mutating.  In NYC massive protests with 20,000+ people were allowed, while at the same time a funeral with about 80 people was shut down, A man playing catch with his daughter in the park was fined, and  the gates of a small playground  were welded shut to keep residents away.  A crowd of over 50,000 people packed the Hollywood streets, literally cheek to cheek, , while residents were not allowed on the dry sand of the beach  . Look at this picture

Is this the pandemic we were warned about ?  Seems more like arbitrary fear mongering ,

So what it comes down to is do you believe the "experts" who have been DEAD WRONG  or your own eyes. My wife is a nurse and her hospital has one Covid patient, the neighboring hospital has 12 patiants total, because people are now scared of hospitals  This is Long Island, a former "epicenter"

I could go on and on, but

As to  the topic of this thread unfortunately  a New strain has been identified

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/national-international/unique-coronavirus-strain-found-in-chicago-northwestern-study/2473010/

so it is highly unlikely we will see WW Chicago ,

How many of those young kids are even going to get tested?  The amount of new cases in AZ and many Southern states are surging badly right now. Don’t get too comfortable yet...

Oh, I'm far from comfortable. While my town has only about 400 cases, over 100 of those have popped up in the last week. It is just interesting that some places are seeing huge increases while areas that hosted large non-socially distanced gatherings in the recent past *don't appear* to be seeing the same. It is just kind of interesting to see how this thing is developing and what we may learn about it from these patterns of spread.

Same in my not-so-major city, but the testing data from protesters in Minneapolis and Boston is so far running only 1% infection rate per an article I read this morning.

I believe this is a testament to how effective mask-wearing is.  Nearly all of those protesters were wearing masks.

Man, it would be so nice if that is all it takes.

Reed Philly scheduled for the next  weekend after Chicago   has   canceled

The good news is New York is coming back to life

I plan to go to Rosemont that week , Show or no show, the show is only part of my summer travel routine.

Maybe we will rent a hotel meeting room for a small comic swap. T.

Personally, I won't be attending a convention of any size until there's a vaccine--so sometime in 2021 at the earliest. There's just no way I feel comfortable being in a confined, indoor space with any sizable group of people before then.

Yeah, though if everyone would just follow the damn guidelines I think we would be ok. Masks and keeping a bit of distance is not so much to ask, but apparently some feel it is. I won't be surprised if masks become more commonplace going forward, like you see many places in Asia. It would at least cut down on cases of con crud.

Unfortunately, people seem extremely unwilling to wear masks, for a variety of reasons. Even if most people at a show were wearing masks, I wouldn't feel comfortable enough to enjoy the experience. I like to spend almost an entire day at a show, and I couldn't possibly spend that much time indoors with people I don't know, mask or no mask.

Thats been the problem from the beginning.  A certain % of our population is either too stupid, too paranoid, or honestly just nuts to do what they are supposed to do.

At least Terry will make himself available to sell books even if Wizard cancels. Probably something like the beer get together he puts on Saturday nights in the Embassy Suites.

The show is in Rosemont, not Chicago, so it will be more likely depend on the Governor’s position in August.  Will be interesting to see, as this convention center historically has event almost every weekend of the year of varying size. There haven’t been any in months, and Wizard is the first event on their calendar, followed by many still showing through the fall.  The whole area there is driven by the convention center, the casino, the airport and the minor league baseball team.  All of these have been, of course, heavily damaged by the events this year. I wonder how effectively they can “turn it back on”. The supply chain for restaurants, hotels, etc is a mess for physical goods, and getting employees back could also be tough. The list of local restaurants closing for good here gets longer every month.
