What in the wild world of sports is going on here?

The newsstand edition of Ultimate Fallout #4 appears on the secondary market far, far less often than the 1:25 variant for Ultimate Fallout #4.  So, a multiplier effect seems to have emerged.

Is it worth it?

It's the first ever CGC 9.8 sale for UF #4 newsstand, so after the next 5 sales, it will probably be either insane or genius. lol

However, it should be noted that the CGC 9.8 UF #4 direct editions are selling for around $1,200 - $1,400 being the first appearance of Miles Morales, so the newsstand multiplier is about 6 or 7.

Compare that to Amazing Spider-Man #667 Dell'Otto variant which sells for $20,000 in CGC 9.8 and the regular edition CGC 9.8 Amazing Spider-Man #667 sells for $40.  That multiplier is 500... and ASM #667 itself (the pages inside) contains nothing of importance.

Initially, I thought insane price but with those stats, book should be worth $600,000 to $700,000.  If this is the only 9.8 then $8 K is going to look cheap in a few years.   UF#4 looks like the Hulk #181 of the modern age.

There's no way to know.  CGC doesn't identify newsstand editions, so the CGC census is no help for counts.

They don't? I thought they did, like in the ones here below. The data is in their database somewhere, they could include it in the census.

Newsstand variants, $3.99 newsstand editions, $4.99 and manufacturing difference newsstand editions

CGC only identifies newsstand for some books - usually those with a price difference.

Ultimate Fallout #4 does not have a newsstand edition designation in CGC's database (as of today).

Only in a ridiculously arbitrary way that makes a half-assed effort look like perfection.

No, it isn't. If it's not on the label, it's not in their database.

Not enough people seen this with the high starting bid. All this shows is one person was willing to pay that much. Maybe 2 or 3 if the other bidders weren't shills. Newsstand seems pretty rare and people will pay for rarity so this price may end up being a bargain.

it should be noted there was only 2 bidders

the winning bidder with 363 feedback, the losing bidder with 3 feedback

the opening price was $6000

Both bids of $8,000 (and $8,100 or whatever the max bid would have been with $100 as the increment) occurred in the final minute of the auction.  It's interesting to think that the $8,000 bidder might have gone higher if there would have been time to do so.  An auction of one of these books through Heritage would be interesting to see, since they don't have an end time... they allow counterbids and give closing warnings as auctions extend.

I'm all 4 newsstand being priced different and receiving a premium. I also know that this book isn't particularly easy to find as a newsstand, but the book itself is incredibly inflated (right now) and this is the perfect timing of a sale. More copies will emerge and I doubt that the next copies will go beyond this initial offering. This book will come down.

If the sale is legit.

The modern market unfortunately is full of people who manipulate it to their benefit.
