Sending in slabs for signings

Can you submit slabs for a signing without cracking the slab? I know typically to make a window on raw book signings but wasn’t sure if you can submit a slab and have them crack it to help preserve the grade etc.

It depends on the event and the facilitator.  There may a fee

contact your facilitator

if it’s a Cgc event contact them and have them walk you through your specific process

If it is for CGC you can send the slab and they supply the window bag. The grade will not be preserved. Comic book is graded again after the signing... a 9.8 may come back with a lesser grade. Spring for the pressing in case the artist gets a little too enthusiastic handling your book...it happens.

Hey Jason, glad you reached out.

DONT DO THIS

Sending in a slabbed comic for them to unslab it is a surefire way to NOT preserve your grade. CGC allows it and will charge you an extra 5$ for them to crack your slab and then handle your comic for it to be signed. As soon as it is out of the slab, there is 0 guarantee for grade preservation. They write it in big red letters whenever you do a submission. And yet people still do it and it comes back a grade lower. And here is why, you are making more people handle your book and every moment of extra handling is a moment where something happens and your comic goes down a few points in grade. Someone sent in a 9.2 slab and it came back 7.5 because someone bent a corner of the comic as they were handling it.

If you want to preserve your grade you are waaaay better off cracking it from the comfort of your own home and doing the window yourself. Like that you are in control of the situation and you have all the time to do it. It took me 3 hours getting 2 books window bagged the other day, making sure everything was fine. If your book is window bagged, then there is a lot less handling since you don't have to remove the comic from anything, ever. So less chance of a mishap.
