Pedigrees found in the wild?
2 2

Is it possible I’ve stumbled onto some pedigree books in the wild? Bought this one from my local shop, who picked it up from an original owner collection of a large amount of golden and silver age Strange Adventures out here in California. I bought the bulk of them and just realized the marking in the top left corner on this one. Could it be a lost River City?

I am no expert on ped markings.  I have the SA 32 River City for further comparison.  I know Jay @zzutak knows the River City pretty well along with others here.  Regardless, they look like outstanding books.

Thanks! Well, my markings definitely aren’t anywhere near as pronounced as yours. I feel less confident now lol.

I do not think they were all as pronounced.  Jay ran a River City sales thread not too long.  There were some SAs in it.   You might take a look through to see as not all markings were as deep as mine.  There is also a Show off Your River City Ped thread somewhere.

I have found a LOT of pedigrees over the years. I found a San Francisco Nation Comic #27 in Harley Yee’s box in the 90’s. In the late 80’s though Jon Warrens auctions I was sent a Cosmic Aeroplane Jumbo #161. I’ve found a few Mile Highs and other pedigrees some of which I told the dealer about because I didn’t want them or they were too overpriced regardless.

This is not a River City copy.  The arrival date (1-4) is correct, but the form and penmanship of the marking is not consistent with any RCs I've ever seen.  Here are scans of the actual River City SA #17 -- just before and just after Mark Wilson gave it the CPR treatment in an attempt to squeeze a CGC 9.6 out of an already beautiful CGC 9.4.  Sad.

That's a damn shame. I'll end my comments right there.

And yet another, not from the same collection but a different one as I recall my local shop got in. Possibly a lost Nova Scotia?

The "Nova Scotia" write up seems as if it should read "...a Canadian dealer from New Brunswick."   lol
