Fantastic Fanzine #11 – Cover by Jim Steranko. 8 1/2" x 10 1/2". Color cover, B&W interior ---- $55  $40

Includes: an interview with Jim Steranko by Gary Groth; "Running Mate" Fan Fiction by Bill Cantley; Thunder Agents centerfold by Dave Cockrum; front cover of the Black Condor by Jim Steranko.  Includes one-page Club Memo Bonus Sheet.  28 pages on Steranko: interview, unpublished art, and checklist.  Barry Smith Silver Surfer illustration. Thunder Agents centerspread by Dave Cockrum, Art by Robert Kline, Dave Cockrum, John Fantucchio, others.

 

Steranko:  Graphic Prince of Darkness – Tales from the Edge #11 (March 1998) ---- $55  $20

Vanguard Productions, 1993 Series Signed with 2 signatures:  Jim Steranko and (most likely but not 100% sure) J. David Spurlock. 

Research indicates:  Vanguard Studio Productions Barcode 074470933014 81 Editing J. David Spurlock.  This book is subtitled "Special Edition, Steranko: Graphic Prince of Darkness 2."

Three illustrations. The first two comprise the front and back of the front cover flap: the "Tower of Shadows #1" rejected cover and an illustration featuring The Shadow. The last one is a fantasy illustration featuring a kneeling nude woman with spikes coming out of her ankles, knees, hips and elbows.  Synopsis Analysis of Steranko's work. Captain America; The Vision; Nick Fury; Hawkeye; Iron Man; Black Panther; Thor.  Steranko talks about the time he walked into a biker bar and escaped after being harassed by the occupants. Accompanying the article is a small size reprint of the Captain America #113 cover and a full page reprint of the rejected original cover of that issue.  Steranko talks about how he got into music as a teen and how that grew into becoming a professional musician. He also relates a few stories revolving around the women he met in clubs. Seven drawings of females accompany the text. 

An in-depth look at the "At the Stroke of Midnight!" story, detailing how it came to be and Steranko's conflicts with Stan Lee. Pages three and four from Steranko's unpublished "Dante's Inferno" story comes after the text. Also includes page two from Tower of Shadows #1 in 1/4 page size.

Steranko details what it took to pull off a stunt involving his being chained inside a descending elevator. Also included is a small photo of Steranko chained on his knees and a small-size image of the cover to Mister Miracle #1.

Steranko recalls his induction into The Witch Doctors, a club of writers and magicians. He also relates a card trick he played on Orson Welles.

A look at the "Chandler: Red Tide" book. Six images from the book accompany the text.

El Borak; Indiana Jones.  Steranko talks about his musicians days, including a story about how playing the standard "Come Back to Sorrento" often resulted in aggressive behavior among certain audience members. Four illustrations accompany the text.

A look at Steranko's preproduction work on Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula movie. Includes several pages of storyboards.

Steranko's interest in games and puzzles and how he exhibited this in his career.

Steranko tells a story of being knocked unconscious, kidnapped and nearly killed by a group of thugs.

Sixteen small drawings from Steranko's "Theatre of Concepts" and a brief update on his current projects.
