Realistic Romances #9 - 4.0 - $22

L.B. Cole!!

I'm not sure why these aren't more desired, maybe supply? This is a 1958 reprint of a cover that originally appeared in 1953.

The book has great color and a lot of gloss, and the story involves a romance with a mobster or something who gets shot, so there's a lot going on. There's also some tanning on the covers, with a couple small chips out of the edges, which accounts for the grade.

SOLD!

First Love (UK) #4 - 5.0 - $22

Here's a weird one. This is a British series reprinting Harvey romance books. It's a squarebound 68 pager with a sweet date stamp. Though it borrows the title from the U.S. "First Love" series, the contents are different. Interior is black and white.

SOLD!

Patsy Walker #85 - 2.5 - $60

For me, this is the best Al Hartley Patsy Walker cover, and it's not close. A lot of his covers, Patsy looks like a crazed lunatic. But here he manages to rein things in and bring back some of that early 50's Hartley magic.

Great colors on this. The cover has some toastiness, so the top edge has some issues front and back - a tear on fc through the P, and some slight brittleness. I think the corner got wet at some point, so there's a slight stain and waviness.

Looks fantastic though. I don't mind keeping this one, hence the price.

Miss America v. 7 #15  - 4.5 - $15

These Miss America issues are really underrated. There's some great golden age comic book work inside.

This has an off register cover strike if you're into that sort of thing.

Here's the cover, but also a look at the sweet interior work hiding inside:

Night Nurse #3 - 3.0 - $22

Nice gloss and colors. There's a big vertical crease on fc near spine as you can see in scans. Also, some ink smudges front and back covers. Looks to me like someone had wet hands while reading this. I assume it was a burly union worker eating a hot dog from a vdenor cart while reading his latest Night Nurse on the subway ride home from the factory.

Great story that swipes form the plot of The Godfather, as you ca see from the cover image.

Okay, taking a break. I probably will finish up tomorrow.

Tomorrow's books will include AAMoW #89, Horrors of War #12 with an L.B. Cole cover, a low grade Josie and the Pussycats #45 with the first Pussycats, a couple Matt Baker issues of Lassie, an apparently rare and awfully interesting anti-communist/pro-democracy propaganda comic called The Story Behind Your Liberty!, and a pedigree issue of Jimmy Olsen.

Thanks everyone!

Horrors of War #12 - 3.0 - $100

L.B. Cole!

This is a solid low grade book that presents very nicely for the grade. Main issue is tanning, particularly the cover. This has led to a small spine split at bottom (and the bottom spine corner has blunting), another small spine crack near top on back cover, and a couple spine cracks. The cover is also a little dirty. There's a small tear on the back cover.

On the plus side, there's a faint date stamp on the logo that's easy to miss if you aren't looking for it, but if you're into that sort of thing, it says JAN 12.

A bigger bonus - there's actually a full page L.B. Cole splash page on the inside fc as well. I know with many of these books he only did the cover, but he decided to do a little extra for you Cole fans this time.

The Story Behind Your Liberty! - 6.0 - $90

I don't know a lot about this one. I'm not sure anyone does! I don't see any listing for it on GCD, and when I showed it here on the boards, nobody else seemed to have heard of it either. There is a listing at Mycomicshop/Lonestar, though, so this must not be the only copy around.

This came out in 1952. It's an 8 page pro-democracy propaganda comic. It's all newsprint, including the covers. Most of the book is a retelling of the events of the Revolutionary War, but on the last page they make the purpose clear - you have these freedoms so you can fight those godless communists!! The last page includes a Stalin portrait, just to drive things home - this came out a year before his death.

Condition-wise, it's slightly tanned, though... I dunno, maybe that's what it looked like originally. Honestly, I have no idea. There's a non color breaking bend through the book at rop right and another ncb middle fc, and a couple at bottom as well. I think this could be pressed flat, but no promises, this one is outside my experience. At 8 pages, the book is very thin.

Since there's no information about this, I have no idea what the "value" is, so I am just guessing with the price. ??? It's not quite "This is Tomorrow," but it's a little bit "This is Yesterday" so... yeah, here it is.
