i did not realize that Cgc has been hammering  books more than usual due to rusty staples...good to know...that’s why I value the boards as much as I do

I don't think it's a question of a variable degree of impact at different times of how rust affects grade outcome cyclically. I think CGC has been very consistent over the long haul in evaluating the effect of rust on the overall grade. I just see an accumulation of the type of flaws on this book, a Bronze age book at that, that will impact the overall grade to a slightly further degree than if a Silver or Golden age book. Taking into consideration the rust and partially opened staple, I don't see more than a 4.5 without some serious intervention that at best, might raise the bar to 5.0, maybe 5.5 if tremendously lucky, depending upon favorable outcome.
