Can't say I've bought from this guy before, but his behavior just seems so...unsettling. Immature, aggressive, hostile...I can't imagine I'd ever want to buy a book from someone who acts this way. And that completely sets aside any issues with overgrading or hiding restoration, which I don't have any information to comment upon.

Well, I just checked his feedback and when one of the comments is "Avoid like Covid-19" it does tend to ring some alarm bells...

Wow way too many questions and guesswork to address everything.  Here is how the books got here, were handled, and shipped:

Dylan contacted me through IG where I post lots of my results, I prefer to do conservation work but also like doing tough clean/press jobs as well.  This is the kind of work I post there, both clean/press jobs without any work that would negate a blue label:

all posted with permission of the owner (not Dylan).

the AF 15 books came to me after lengthy discussion regarding my ability to handle them correctly.  About the books:

low grade AF15:

Book had tape removal and possibly other cleaning/pressing PRIOR to coming to me:  book required light cleaning (dry cleaning, no treatments or chemicals) and pressing.  Top staple was attached but had paper loss toward front cover, managed to slip partial small piece under staple as shown

high grade AF 15:

Very nice book with some pebbling and grit embedment from being pressed some time in the past.  Dry cleaned cover and light press.  Staples were slightly sunk and the bottom staple had off-spine placement so great care was taken in handling.  No chemical treatments or any kind were done on this book.

Books were in Mylars, double back boards, individually cardboard sandwiched, bubble wrapped, placed in a box:  that box was then bubble wrapped, and then placed inside another large box.  Shipping was 2 day priority; arrived in 3 days.  No communication of damage and that was the last I heard About being graded with detached covers.

I almost always take pictures of the books finished and about to be shipped and so glad that I did.  These are the high grade book:

First, let me say that you seem to be a very reputable person and it appears you do quality work.

Second, the higher grade copy appears to be an attractive mid grade book. But the lower grade one seems to be the "problem child." Your statement about being able to attach a small part of the detached cover to the top staple makes sense to me, and the fact that both books had likely been worked on before you did work to them is also very interesting.

So for me, the question would be whether the books were somehow adversely affected by these repeated procedures, and whether Dylan did something else to them when he got them back. I would have to assume he at least looked them over before sending them to CGC. It is possible that something happened to them after he got them back or when he shipped them to CGC.

But thank you for the clear photos and the detailed response---for me, it certainly helps to explain part of this compelling mystery...

For anyone following the time frame... is it possible that either of these copies were the toilet copy used in his toilet video of his toilet humor?

Basically were any of his toilet videos or pictures filmed after he would have received the books back?

Because all it takes is one slip up from holding it as you are getting up or down on the throne and that cover is coming right off.

His grading is so removed from reality, so aggressively ambitious that after seeing only a half dozen or so of his raw graded ebay listings I immediately included him to my seller ID block on my various saved ebay searches. Saves time.

What he's doing is to try stirring the pot, join the other BSD sellers, the big dogs, like Metro, Bob, Chuck, etc., the household names. But instead of using a stick, he's using a limp noodle, not only is the grading comical at best, but the inventory is weak. Instead of trying to be a big fish in a small pond, it would be better business to improve what he does do, being a small fish in a big pond. He could excel at that, not everybody is Metro, Probstein, Bob, or other big fish.

So he's doing is the Reality Show schtick. That's why the histrionics. The inventory is too weak to make any type of splash anyway else, IMO.

I like to call that "aspirational grading".

Looks like the toilet video that was shown back on page 30 is from March 24

Can't tell if its either of the two books in question, but I don't see the top staple damage by the price circle on this one (which may rule out the lower grade copy).

But all the posts have now been "consolidated" in the IG recycle bin.

For someone who thinks that the now infamous video of the Sup 1 being handled cavalierly supports his claims of damage, this isn't a good look. Well, it's not a good look in any regard, but even so....
