Can I ship cards in toploaders for my bulk order?

Hello WillTCG,

Thank you for your question.  Top loaders are ok but not really recommended.  We would prefer that they are in penny sleeves and put into a card saver so that they do not slide out while being shipped to us.

Thank you,

Lisa

I was hoping to submit each one sealed in a team bag. Is this acceptable?

Hi,

Are you referring to the original manufacturing packaging?  If so, we will need written permission to cut it out.

Thank you,

Lisa

I have placed each card within a penny saver sleeve, and then into a toploader, in order to keep the card from moving around, I then put the toploader into a small resealable plastic bag that encapsulates the entire toploader tightly, and keeps the card inside from coming out. I just wondered whether it was alright to send cards that had been individually sealed in this way.

Top loaders, taped off at the top. Wrapped in bubble wrap. It's not rocket science, CGC won't reject the cards if they arrive safely shipped and the shipping carton is not obliterated. They only suggest this as  means to protect your collectibles.

I used team bags to avoid the sticky tape residue but yes, this is how I shipped them.

Awesome. I've been submitting comics for about 5 years now and I've had only one returned shipment because the shipping box was blown out at the corners. As long as care and thought is put into the shipment the CGC folks will accept it. Minus a blown out box, lol.

The way that you can avoid sticky tape residue on the card is you first put the card into a penny sleeve, then you insert it into the top loader with the open end of the penny sleeve facing down so that the open end is at the bottom, sealed end, of the top loader. That way, when you place a piece of tape on the open end of the top loader, it can only get tape residue on the penny sleeve, not the card itself.

When sending in cards for submission I use penny sleeve, in top loader, but I also use the post its cut into flags, which are then folded over the top to keep card from coming out. This also provides a safe way to remove the penny sleeve from the top loader. I also make sure to fold the edge of any painters tape I use for easy removal. Here are some pictures I took showing how I package and materials used , so I could share with a friend who was getting ready for his first submission. 20200724_183715.thumb.jpg.03571515f5cd333643353094c832806c.jpg20200724_183725.thumb.jpg.c9374518011b299c4d9fc8ce0b46fd70.jpg20200724_182156.thumb.jpg.b9472f7689dfdf9360ea648f84be559c.jpg20200724_182224.thumb.jpg.1166fbe9c0d2fddba4552d04e064e456.jpg20200724_182246.thumb.jpg.8a7e37d7c3edc4e9057f9a38e097159b.jpg20200724_182305.thumb.jpg.102241a166a8430b284451f00817c02b.jpg20200724_182320.thumb.jpg.f36d06545e6e12c0b781132444ec48bd.jpg20200724_182336.thumb.jpg.6fbcf20d4b4eb6e1f8093f4a9928c0a1.jpg20200724_182402.thumb.jpg.8cda1bdd32e4d226c75e335a97a89b3a.jpg20200724_182415.thumb.jpg.f1ac6d3b1f232f1748187a55d24c7a4f.jpg20200724_182435.thumb.jpg.312794d3133c47034f1bdce99d0d02ac.jpg20200724_182455.thumb.jpg.65fb644c2d9d6217faaf78b9915a5ca8.jpg20200724_182538.thumb.jpg.246527d933f7465136938646bb2b5f4f.jpg20200724_183803.thumb.jpg.9369b0319734fc2062fd8be743e1b41d.jpg20200724_183831.thumb.jpg.1241c45b444f8653f74ef89bfcdb40cc.jpg

The white is foam board , which I found to be stronger than cardboard and cheaper. I then wrap this is bubble wrap and place inside of box. The above example is for one card, but multiple cards can be used . Also of note, when I use an plain envelope I do not seal it , again for ease of opening.

Thanks for this :headbang: . Super helpful as I was looking for guidance as well for a first time submission... used to shipping comics no problem, cards on the other hand.

been using toploaders for years and I can say without a doubt they are horrible at protecting cards. specifically the edges
they turn CGC 10's to CGC 8's in my opinion

Good protection for cards require the edges to have a lot of room
hence why penny sleeves + card savers are amazing at keeping a card in pristine condition

Can I submit a card for grading in a plastic recessed card holder? I do not care if the recessed card holder is discarded once you receive it. I just want maximum protection for my card but will ship with the penny sleeve and rigid protector if that’s what is necessary.

Hello

here are our recommendations for shipping to CGC.  These suggestions are not required so, I am sure the holder you mentioned above is fine.

Mike

Shipping Your Trading Cards

Packaging Instructions

  1. For the protection of your cards, place each card into a protective sleeve.

  2. Then, place each card in a semi-rigid sleeve. The sleeve you choose must be sturdy enough to allow us to remove the card safely.

  3. Put all of your cards in between two cardboard pieces that are larger than the cards. When packaging your cards for shipment, please place the cards in the order in which they appear on the submission form packing slip.

  4. Secure the cardboard pieces with rubber bands. Ensure that the rubber bands are not too tight. They should be just tight enough to hold the cardboard pieces together and prevent the cards from falling out.

Important: If packed too tightly, the cards inside may get damaged.

  5. Protect the bound cards with packing material such as bubble wrap, Styrofoam pellets or other shipping/packing material.

  6. Pack in a sturdy cardboard box, ensuring the bound cards are not packed too tightly. This may cause damage if mishandled. After placing your packing slip(s) in the box along with the cards, use packing tape to completely seal the outside of the box.

  7. If you are submitting cards under the WalkThrough grading tier, mark each side of your shipping box with WK in large, bold letters. If you are submitting cards under the Express grading tier, mark each side of your shipping box with EX in large, bold letters. If you are submitting cards under the Standard grading tier, mark each side of your shipping box with ST in large, bold letters. If you are submitting multiple grading tiers in the same shipping box, indicate the highest/fastest grading tier. Incorrectly marked packages will experience delays.

  8. If using USPS, ship your packaged cards to:

    CGC Trading Cards
    PO Box 4701
    Sarasota, FL 34230

If using a shipping provider other than USPS, ship your packaged cards to:

    CGC Trading Cards
    5501 Communications Parkway
    Sarasota, FL 34240

Important: The shipping provider that you select when submitting your order refers to the return shipping from CGC Trading Cards to you. You are responsible for safely shipping your cards to CGC.
