I often see pieces in Heritage Signature auctions that have been offered up before through CBG, dealer catalogs, etc. from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. For the upcoming November auction, I decided to list some "familiar" pieces so bidders can know a bit more about their provenance. Unfortunately many collectors are a secretive lot and don't want their treasures publicly documented like that. I would imagine that the busiest dealers maintain their own databases on all auction results, probably with private notations about behind-the-scenes happenings like dealers "buying" their own pieces and the like. Knowledge is power! It would be nice if that information were publicly available like house sales are, but it wouldn't be in the best interests of the database owners to do that. I picked up a slew of various covers in 1995 for $10-20 apiece. Granted, I may have been right place, right time, but still... Hey, maybe @Lee B. will share with us what else the "vintage cover market" was offering for around $350 or less then too...the "alternatives"? And still better then spending 350 on x force 1’s That's exactly what I was doing at the time, I'd opened a Diamond account and was buying cases of "hot" new comics for 45% off cover (iirc) and flipping them for 10x cover at local monthly conventions!
