It says “cut” before that, too. So, “Cut Professor discussing blood constituents…” That makes sense as an editorial note, and fits the context.

I always liked how Paolo Rivera cataloged this first page in his Daredevil run with "Friggin Daredevil!" He was clearly excited to work on the book.

This technique may be old news to everyone else, but I hadn't seen it before. I just got an Alcala page from Savage Sword of Conan. The final halftone page is attached to another underlying board which contains rough layouts but the final lettering. The top page is cut out so that the letters s how through holes from the page beneath.
