To manage expectations at conventions, artists or their reps, often show samples of what to expect at what price point.

Ask before you lay out, (pun intended), the money.

 

Still and all, his point is correct. I have been debating the purchase of a particular pencil piece for a while, but I haven't pulled the trigger because the absence of certain areas that are to be mostly filled in leaves the pencil piece looking too light on detail.
