Hi can anyone tell me what is the recognised first full appearance of Spiderman in a black costume. ASM #252 or Secret Wars #8 ?

This may belong in copper, but I'll answer right quick, it's ASM #252.

If you look at the slabs of the two books you mention, you can see that SW#8 Dec. 1984 came out months after ASM #252 May 1984 :)

Chronologically that story comes first, and is the origin of the black costume, but in hobby terms "1st appearance" refers to publishing.

It's not just comics.  What is released for the story first is always the first appearance.  The 1st appearance of Luke Skywalker is definitely Star Wars 1977 and not his actual birth in Revenge of the Sith 2005.

Absolutely - from Star Wars 1977, we know he lives with his aunt and uncle and knows Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi, but we don't have his origin.

Later, we find out that his father is Anakin and we don't know his mother.

His origin would be his birth and his arrival on Tatooine to live with his aunt and uncle, with Obi-Wan living nearby to keep an eye on him.

A discussion of this in length would be better suited for the copper age forum.

True, but there's nothing about this topic that qualifies for Bronze Age - except maybe Star Wars 1977, so it's not like we can get back on-topic with Bronze Age for black suit Spider-Man. lol

Maybe we can find some random Bronze issue where Spider-man is in the shadows so he *appears* to be wearing a black suit.
