Once again little x means in census but .0 by grade (probably resubmit) and little u means unslabbed but know about (from collector or auction).

Usually, if you buy the book raw, the seller will provide some kind of documentation proving the book is of a particular pedigree. If you send the book in for certification, you will send along the proof, and CGC will review it. If they agree that the book is a pedigreed book, they will note it on the label.

 

Of course, if you buy a slabbed book that already has the pedigree noted on the label, you have nothing to be concerned about.

 

There are instances where sellers will advertise a raw book as being of a particular pedigree, and be mistaken, not necessarily on purpose. I don't know of any instances offhand where a seller tried to pass a book that wasn't a pedigree off on purpose, but I'm sure it's happened.
