This would be a now rare example of a segment of the OA market not keeping up with rising trends. I bought my Miller Electra page 7-8 years ago for 20k. Even more surprising that it's a popular artist and character!

Are we talking Miller Elektra Lives Again?  Just want to make sure people aren't talking about Miller Daredevil pages with Elektra.

I assumed that's what @artdealer was referencing, and what I was expanding upon. I actually have not been tracking those prices since I bought my example, so deferred to Mitch's expertise as the initial seller of this material. Has there been any secondary market examples to point to? Haven't looked for any myself, but the prices suggested are significantly less than Miller Electra pages from the Daredevil run.

A Hempel Sandman page was at auction recently; there are Shelton pages out there for sale, including the whole "Fineous Gets an Abortion" story.  I think the Golden Micronauts is pretty rare.  There was an interview on CAF Live recently about the new Artists edition.

Agreed.  I didn't know the range they are at nowadays, which is why I wanted the clarification.

Yeah, any ideas on Golden Micronauts pages?  Or Golden Dr. Strange?

Golden Dr. Strange is already on the list, in the $10-20k tier.  I'm sure someone will come up with prices for Micronauts pages if we're patient.  Patience is a virue.

I stand corrected LOL!  Yes, I'm sure someone will!

Hi everyone, hats off to Lago32 for the initial idea in 2014, and to Alxjhnsn for this idea to create an all-new thread so I can keep this at the top of the thread and update over time, while keeping the original valuations from 2014 on the other thread.  I have also reorganized in alphabetical order.  Please post comments below, and I will keep updating.  The ranges are what an A level Panel Page would value.  In the definitions, we define A page and also art above and below this level.

DEFINITIONS

Covers or Pages that Transcend Artist/Run (eg. major first app) are 3 to 6X

A+, an Exceptional Page (top 5%, eg. key story, battle page, key character app) is 1.5 to 2X

A , a Special Keeper Page (top 20%, eg. little need to upgrade, "classic" example from run/story) is 1X

B, a Nice Representative Example (top 50%, eg. solid, recognizable) is 0.5 to 0.75X

C, a Placeholder / Might Upgrade (bottom 50%, eg. would like to upgrade if possible) is 0.25 to 0.40X

Pretty sure Wrightson Frankenstein “A” plates should now go up to the tippy top. The cover plate sold for $1.2 million.

If Bernie plates are in on this, let's get Frazetta's EQ i.e Eerie #23 cover for a cool $5.4 mil.  B-)

Edit:  Oh, interiors only it seems!

Chaykin Star Wars pages are next to impossible to find, and if you do, good luck. The collectors who go after them have deep pockets

We have an OA market that presently respects no boundaries of price, quality, history or even taste. Given how steroidal auction results have been lately, I think a lot of pieces could blow through the ranges stated here.  People should break their psychological anchors to historical data points and boundaries that, for the time being, no longer exist in this hobby, because the people paying these prices sure have.

At this point, I would rather that the (very) few remaining things I really want in the OA world to stay unavailable. While I fully recognize and acknowledge the bizarre reality of what is going on in the marketplace, that doesn't mean I have to like it or have any desire to participate in this madness if I can avoid it! :fear:

I know we all think (as I do) that prices are going crazy. That said, you made a comment regarding no boundaries, and implied that quality didn't matter.

By know means am I disagreeing with you, but could you point out a few example (preferably in the Silver/Bronze/80's range) of pieces you thought the pricing was way off based on quality. I think we all get surprised on some new art that goes through the roof, but I'm more interest in hearing from you (or anyone else), what they thought was extremely expensive for a piece that was "not quality".

I'm still trying to grasp what's happening in the marketplace and certainly not one to criticize record prices-- heck, a good portion of my collection were top of market purchases over the years--  but the Wonder Woman #231 (1977) cover selling for $25k blew away my expectations and comparable prices.   Mike Nasser and Vince Colletta don't normally realize prices anywhere close, and surely not together. During the past 3 years, the next highest WW covers sold by HA would be $22k (Perez), $10.8k (Bolland), $9k (Infantino) and $8k (Sekowsky).  During same period, Nasser covers sold for $16k (ASM) and $9k (Defenders), both those also reflect a Marvel premium to DC art.   Nasser's highest priced piece among CAF-tracked dealers is $2800 for a Superboy title splash.  Any thoughts / insights would be appreciated as I'm looking to buy a WW cover (preferably Buckler 70s or Perez 80s) sometime soon.  Thx

I'm much too diplomatic to call out artists (and collectors!) by name. lol

Gene can speak for himself but I'm gonna pipe in state what I hope is obvious to all: "not quality" represents about 95% of all comic art that's ever existed. Most of the 5% remaining was created in the last two decades. There is a very good reason most comic artists were not able to make it into the slicks (or even pulps/men's mags)...they stunk. And, channeling a bit of @Bronty now...nobody is hot to chase anything Sal Buscema drew that wasn't published by Marvel of DC. Or another way of putting: who collecting Dave Cockrum has anything Claypool Comics on their wantlist?
