WeR138 Posted January 2, 2021 Share Posted January 2, 2021 My apologies to AlexH if he was planning on doing this, but so many people seemed to enjoy it, I thought it would be a shame not to have the thread again this year. I didn't keep track of my reading last year, but really enjoyed seeing what others were diving into. This is my year! Less than 3 books a day. Should be easy, right? Okay, so Alex did a really good intro last year, and I'll just refresh your memory: "For those that haven’t seen this before. This is a thread that challenges you to read 1000 comic books in 2021, and share your thoughts on the books you have read. Please note, this is not a competition. And anyone can participate. So, what counts as a comic book? I would say any standard 22 page comic would count as 1 book. A TPB would be whatever the number if issues are in that book. Anime would be a bit harder to figure out, but use your best judgement. Remember, it’s not a competition. Just have fun with it." A couple of long stories I still want to read, but I think I’ll transition over to DCs fairly soon this year for some variety. Sorry if I missed anyone from last year. I hope we have as much fun this year! I read 493 last year. Just short of my personal goal of wanting to get to at least 500. I have a good 100 + books between 3 different series that should start me off in a good direction. Lets read... I'm doing a Legion of Super Heroes read, can confirm I've read #13 (1984 Baxter series) in 2021 so far. I'm a big fan of the Levitz / Giffen Legion (which I'm a bit past now). 284-305 is probably a top 10 all-time run for me. I will probably stop before 5YL. I do have that whole run, but I don't know if I want bleak right now. I might change my mind when I get there. Last year was the Avengers / New Avengers / Secret Wars saga. Took me forever to post about it all in the thread. Legion is one of my favourites as well. My focus will be on the neverending unread pile that seems to grow bigger each year as I add to the PC and as life tends to permit less time to reading that one would like. Maybe this thread will help me get a move on! Okay, so to start... Marvel Superheroes #17 presenting the Black Knight! Great art, and a good story adding to the origin of the character. The reprints don't grab me much so I tend to glaze over them but the original Black Knight tale was worth picking it up. Descender #1, 2 Excited to dive into this run having recently acquired it. The story seems solid to start, and the artwork is odd but I kinda like it. I don't normally read "newer" books but I have started getting into acclaimed series from indie companies and this was one that piqued my interest. Sci-fi is a hard genre for me to really love so for it to grab me right away within the first two issues is promising. I like Sci-fi visually, but often times I find the stories bore me. This sounds doable. We'll see if that's still the case once I head back to work tomorrow. So far, I find myself mainly re-reading comics I own but have slabbed. But I think I might start a series like Marvel Two-in-One and try to read it right through.
