Best grab bag or raffle win?
2 2

30 posts in this topic

There seems to be different opinions on grab bags (shocker!) so I wanted to see just how good or bad they have treated everyone over the years.

What's your best pull from a grab bag or raffle and what did it cost you? They are essentially the same thing, one just gives you some guaranteed product and one just gives you a ticket. Or if you've blanked consistently that's valid info to post as well.

My best was a 15 dollar grab bag that I pulled a XMen 132 newsstand out of. Not a huge win but a nice win.

$100 x 2

Got a Amazing Fantasy 15 purple label 0.5.  I later sold it and turned it into my X-Men 1 4.5 for money to spare.

YOU GOT AN AF15 IN AN EBAY GRAB BAG???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

How long ago was that?

5 or 6 years ago. It talked about it extensively on the boards at the time. I admit, I should not have purchased the ticket.  The raffle was a borderline scam, where they purchased a cheap copy of AF 15 for like $2000 and Spider-Man 1 for about $1000.  I found the initial purchases on eBay.  Then they used that carrot as a way to unload 1000's of worthless books by creating a contest. Someone else got a Spider-Man 1 from the same raffle. The other books I "won" are worth a total of maybe $20.

Waaaay back in 2005 or so, my brother and I convinced my Dad to each buy us a "grab" bag comics on eBay. They were $9.99 plus like $4 shipping. I got my ASM #252 that I currently still have as part of my ASM run and my brother got ASM #381. Somehow, I convinced my brother that the #252 was mine. My brother also never really got into comics and eventually the #381 also made its way into my PC :)

Only time I ever bought one and doubt I ever will again.

I'm not fool enough to throw my coins down that well.  It's a scam to sell overpriced or unwanted books that takes advantage of the suckers who fall for get-rich-quick schemes.

Sales forum rules:

16. Raffles are not allowed.

17. Mystery boxes are not allowed. You must list everything you are selling exactly as the buyer will receive it.

There are no happy stories where comic raffles are concerned, except for the shady seller.

I've never found the need or desire to buy a Mystery box of comics. The Oakman pedigree doesnt take carp books.😎

All mystery boxes are not created equal. :luhv:
