Hi,

I’ve lurked these boards for awhile. I wanted some opinions about my collection.

I’m in my 60s. I’ve had my comic collection (mostly Marvel Superhero and DC) since then. Almost all the comic books are bronze age. I kept them in nice condition but they, for the most part, seem to me to be in the 6-8 range for grading purposes (but I’m no grading expert by any means).
I have a number of what people are calling key comics (Hulk 181, Green Lantern 76, and tons of #1s of lots of stuff Marvel and DC put out in the early 70s to mid 70s).
Would you sell anything now? Or maybe just the unpopular issues of the 800+ piece collection?

Any input is appreciated.

I have in sold many over the years...and always regretted it. There was this one time when I simply needed the cash being "married with children". That was a good reason to sell. Have since purchased them all back. I will only sell if I need the cash. No other reason to me anyway, is good enough.

Gone are Captain America 100, 2 copies of Incredible Hulk 181, Incredible Hulk 180, Giant Size X-Men 1 to name a few. Any wonder I have regrets? It's an awful feeling when you let them go for cash you don't need.

Hulk 181, GS X-men 1, I'd think about selling, but slab em first. GL 76 I'd hold that.

But it really depends if you need or want the money to buy something else.

You ask 50 people you might get about 1/2 that will push you to sell now and another chunk that will tell you to hold.  Life is like a casino when it comes to collectibles, do you cash your chips in now or keep gambling before walking out the exit?  My intuition says this cominc hobby has never been hotter - so hot that it almost feels unreal and so maybe you sell some / keep some.  Good luck.  :preach:

@shadroch is right in my opinion.

If you aren't emotionally invested in them, it's a hot market. Great time to sell.  Put the $$ towards something that will bring you Joy.

If you still enjoy them, hang on to them.

I went through an extended dry spell in my collecting.  My wife and I had a small house near the city and intentions of having a family (which we eventually did).  Those boxes were taking up slot of space so over a decade ago, I decided to sell my entire collection. But once I started going through the boxes, remembering where I got them, the artists that worked on them and rereading the stories, it brought me back to the hobby. And I really haven't looked back since. I've downsized a bit and have been more disciplined, but even with a hot market, I have no interest in selling.

My plan is to sell as part of my retirement but maybe my collecting focus will shift as that is at least a decade out for me. Can't take em with you...

You don’t sell the unpopular stuff until it becomes popular.

Nova 1, She-hulk 1, Eternals 1....

Sell ‘em while they’re hot 2c

She Hulk 1 might be a keeper though. If the show is good there could be years of hilarity and hijinx. They have a great actress playing her, although they don't have the physicality and sex appeal going on. Eternals might be marvel's first disaster of this era if it doesn't have a sense of humor and I can't imagine it will. GOTG worked because it was funny, despite being obscure characters. Ditto Ant Man. On the other hand, it has quite  a cast, so maybe all those individual part meld and it is magic.

I'm keeping mine till the bitter end. Whatever that end winds up being. I AM leaving instructions for my wife how to sell them w/o getting completely hosed by a dealer, though. I love the things. I don't sell things I love. I have sold books in the past and soon as they went clunk in the proverbial mailbox I regretted it. Then for some reason, whatever I sold becomes hyper hot in 6 weeks and quadruples in value. Looking at YOU HOS 92.

I sold about 100k worth of books in 2020.  Nearly all seemed high at the time that I sold them, but would easily be more like 150k right now.
