"Holy Grail"?

Thank you! It's a longshot wrapped in a bigger longshot - me getting to go at all - so I'm not holding out hope. It's okay, life is good! ^^

My Holy Grail is AF15. Not super rare and they change hands all the time so eventually, after saving for a few years and unloading my duplicates, I'm sure I'll score one.

There are only two really rare books that I'm looking for: Maximum Carnage #1 and Amazing Spider-Man #184 All/No-price variant. I stupidly let a sealed copy of the #184 variant go in a big lot that ultimately sold for under $1,000. Also had a NICE copy of #194 and #238 in there. I soon learned that the no-price copy of ASM #184 was probably worth a grand on its own. And I think the 238 in that lot was 9.4+ so it was probably worth a grand by itself. Oh and the #194 was 9.4+ as well so it was close. There are very few auctions I've lost out on that I remember, especially from over a year ago but I don't know if I'll ever forget that one. Just me and 1 other bidder. I tell myself that that guy probably had a reserve price of $3k or something I wouldn't have paid... but I should've at least tried up to at least $1,500... haven't seen a sealed copy of the no-price ASM #184 come up for sale since...

And then there's Maximum Carnage #1. Really rare reprint that came with the deluxe edition of the Maximum Carnage video game, and it used that cool CGI image of Carnage they put on the box. Would love to have a high grade slabbed copy of that one. A 9.8 would be a literal dream :cloud9:

Good hunting!

Hey if you ever get sent down here - I'm more than happy to get you completely wrecked in Melbourne.

And I mean wrecked!

Melbourne is a great City - it's always open. Sports capital of the world, own Grand Prix (Car and Bike) own Grand Slam (tennis) Football, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Basketball, Australian Rules Football (greatest sport in the world), the 5th richest Horse race in the World - the $8,000,000 Melbourne Cup - the list goes on.

Oh yeah, and the Govt gives us all in Victoria a PUBLIC HOLIDAY for the AFL Grand Final and The Melbourne Cup!

Beaches and Brothels, Casinos and Clubs, Racing and Pacing, Theatres, Comedy Festivals, Restaurants, Bars and 24 hr dance clubs. You want it, we have it.

Be glad to show you the sights - your partner too of course, my missus loves a night out as well.

Sadly, we are just starting one flight in to Australia per state per week.

14 day mandatory quarantine - we still have 400,000 Australians stuck abroad so they need to get home - plus we are letting some Chinese (Read $$$$$$ for Uni places) students in too - again I think 1 flight per week.

We had our 2nd wave - didn't like it a lot, 700+ died in Victoria alone (6,000,000 people). We had quarantine, strict night curfews, massive fines for breaches of quarantine orders (max 5km travel for work or essential shopping / medical care), state border blockades by Police and Military.

It worked, Covid is under control, and we are producing our own vaccine here right now.

Curfew was terrible. We were all prisoners, and mental health issues soared. We do not want to go there again!

But hey, when it's all over - and it will, eventually - then come on down, and get ready for a huge night or two out on the town!

In all seriousness, if you do head down, PM me and at least I can recommend a good hotel for you and your partner - local knowledge is good knowledge!

Congrats are undeserved in this case. I got it back in the day. I think it came in a Showbag.

As in The Melbourne Show in 1964?

I actually thought that was a myth.

Thanks - that's great info.

Feel free to post it up on here!

Yes, Royal Melbourne Show. I will post it - just have to find it first!

Edit: @Beige Here it is. As I said, it sadly is missing the cover.

Here is the last page - it was an educational addition, that was certainly not in the Marvel DD#1:

"Grail" would be X-Men #4 as it's the only X-Men from 1 - 143 I don't own. I can buy it just need to justify shelling out the $ for it as I know I should have picked it up before. "Holy Grail" meaning I want but will probably never own would be the same as the OP. GA Sub-Mariner #1 or "Holy Holy Grail" of Marvel Comics #1.

A "grail" to me is something I dont have, really want, and is attainable but very unlikely or will have to wait.

I.e. Detective 27 cant be a grail for me.  It's not happening.

I have most of the Marvel SA mega keys except for FF1 and ASM1 so I guess those 2 would be my grails.  They're attainable for me, but not right now kind of thing.

I posted a few pics here in this thread, (Page 3) but I've found a couple Superman 1's, All Star 8, an X-Men 1 in VF (Graded later as an CGC 8.0)  Archie 1, All American 61 in VF, dozens of Timelys most every Silver age key at one time of another from peoples homes or deals in parking lots.

I attached a couple pics also.
