Yes, but are they still seeing these as writing defects like how they used to and hence take the grade way way down accordingly. From looking at the census, it would appear that these books have not yet been graded, so I certainly hope they view these markings as pedigree codes, as opposed to writing defects which are then unfairly hammered in the determination of the final grade. They look like newstand or distributor marks to me, not "codes" or writing by the original owner.
