Loved the book Kodi - written for young readers but a story for all ages. The watercolors are lovely and the artist, Jared Cullum, does a beautiful job with his sequential storytelling, the pacing, the character design, the backgrounds are all really top-tier!  I ended up buying a dozen pieces that cover many moments throughout the book. Jared was recently nominated for two Eisner awards for both best publication for early readers and painter/multimedia artist...both well deserved!

Very happy to share this piece with you guys. As some of you may remember I'm on a hunt for pin-ups that were published in Marvel Fanfare, sometimes acting as portfolio pieces for various artist who would put them in the pin-up section. Having had tough luck with it however, either from not having money on hand when one comes up for auction or when offered privately to simply not being able to workout a deal, being able to finally add another to me collection is a great feeling. 

Done by Norm Breyfogle this one was published in Marvel Fanfare #57 and featured Electro and Spider-Man in his black costume battling it out. He did a few other pin-ups for this issue as his showcase portfolio but this one was my favorite out of them all. Norm despite being associated with his Batman work at DC (which is evident by the fact that this Marvel published piece was drawn on a DC labeled artboard) actually had one of his first big breaks in 1986 thanks to Marvel Fanfare when he was able to sell a story idea to Marvel which would get published in issue #29. Originally a Batman story, Norm was able to sell it to Marvel after DC rejected it by cutting out the Batman figures on the pages and pasting in Captain America ones. That and the fact that Norm has way less Marvel art compared to the work he did for DC makes this a piece I am very glad to have in my collection.

Oh, yeah. I had a birthday celebration (65th! How did that happen?).

My birthday was a couple of weeks ago, but we are all busy so we celebrated this past weekend. I got presents!

First and foremost, Kathy, Allie, Larry, Lars, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and my mom, Mary Louise, teamed up for a family portrait by Dan Parent. I'm still working out why he keeps including Mr. Weatherbee, Archie's principal, in these!

 Great example by the co-creator of Superman, I have been searching for something by Shuster. I think it was done for an advertisement in the 1940s. IM me if you know what it was done for.

For me oa collecting aint the same as comics run or key collecting,i like when the subject change , i love variety even things that i would not by the comic but the oa talks to me in a different way ,exemple im not a big Conan fan.its fun but i dont follow it closely but this oa caught my eye several years ago and still love it!

Every time this special came on when I was in front of the TV as a kid, I would sit and watch it the whole way through. I know the ongoing X-Men animated series was considered the best by most, but I was disappointed in the drop in animation quality compared to this, which was very good. Awesome that you got part of the storyboard from it!
