amaz spiderman#301 another 9.8 in census

The problem with Modern Age CGC books today is that if it's not a 9.8 or better,No one wants it.If you sell a 9.6 of a key modern age book, you might just make your money back on the grading,if it's a 9.8 you'll make a few bucks but 9.9 and 10.0 is when you make real profit. Kevin

Did anyone really think that all 250,000+ copies of most Modern books would be in demand?

Surely we all recognize that these books have been well protected since "Day One".

It's nice to be able to see a few "solid transactions" for those "common" books,

since there are tons of raw copies out there available under guide.

Let's find those with the sharpest corners and cleanest edges

and give them a little recognition (CGC 9.8 or higher).

If you take the Top 10% in condition, suddenly these common books are a little more interesting.

Or the Top 5%, or even the Top 1%.

Why shouldn't those "best books" get a little bump, even when average copies linger?

People will always gravitiate to the best of the best and hardest to find of any given time period, that is true whether we are talking about Gold, Silver, Bronze or Modern.

When looking for Modern books, they are in huge abundance in high grade, therefore to create the collecting challenge and desirabilty, we now have 9.8, 9.9 and 10.0 books, which the market currently deems to be 'collectable'. The modern book in 9.6 has lost its apeal as more appear on the census and they are just too 'easy' to find.

As long as 9.8 books have the difficulty factor attached, they will command a premium.

Current premiums (like 25X guide) are a product of an immature market however.

No argument here.

We can just look to the graded "modern" sportscard and coin markets

to show the fallacies of early multiplier excitement.
