This thread grew out of some discussions in the ASM 275 9.9 thread in Copper. It turns out a couple of us are working on complete ASM runs of varying lengths, and probably many others are too. I'll start...

I've been working on an ASM #1-64 run for many, many years now. (In a sense, it started with some SA Spideys I bought in the 1980s back when then were really cheap!... though I was much too unfocused as a collector back then to make any progress.) Always loved the title, loved the character and have a special fondness for the earlier Ditko issues.

In the last 5-6 years, mostly thanks to ebay, I've been chipping away at filling in issues I need. For the pricier keys, I've been staying in presentable 2.0-4.5 range due to budget, leaning more towards mid-to-high grades as I go later in the run.

Issues I still need: #1, 2, 13, 16, 20, 31, 41, 46, 60 & 63! (Not sure if I'm willing to spend what it takes for #1 and #2, as I prefer to spend serious money on GA rather than SA books...but we shall see.) 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

So, feel free to discuss ASM runs you're working on (doesn't need to be "silver only"), how you collect, which issues you're still after, and of course, post 'em if you got 'em, guys! thumbsup2.gif

I don't know if this is the right place for this post but if it isn't please send me a message and I'll put it where it belongs.

I'm trying to trade my cgc 9.8's of ASM for ones that I still need.

Below is what I have and what I need.  Feel free to PM me if you want something.

My extra Amazing spider-man 9.8's:

14

1

3

5x2

How do you have extra's in 9.8 unless they are raw? Census only shows there's 1 in 9.8 of each of those issues and if you had them Raw why wouldn't you just grade 1 to sell and then buy the ones you need in 9.8?

And logic crushes another scam!  Nice catch Zacreth!

He's gotta be talking about the renumbering, right?

Not McSpidey, but probably the ASM 1 (1999, vol. 2), could even be the 2014s.   I know, the Vol 2 is marked halfway down the list, but lists can easily be mangled with re-formats.

That’s what I was thinking...but people have tried to scam the boards before.

Aha, good catch Greg, you're probably right.

It's not a scam I'm just new.  Those are Volume 2 cgc 9.8 singles.  I'm just looking to trade.  I'll accept Paypal offers too if they slightly higher than GPA trends.

You're in the Silver Age forum.  Try the marketplace.

I've been collecting X-Men for a while now and have nearly put a complete run of volume 1 (1-544) together. I'm planning on potentially liquidating it though and just collecting key silver age issues, which has brought me back to my primary comic when I was reading as a child, Spiderman. Most of the silver age keys I can otherwise think to collect are Amazing Spiderman issues.

I'm planning on keeping my X-Men 1 and Giant Size, but I believe the rest of my X-Men collection could net me somewhere around $10,000. So I'm trying to decide what to go after.

I was looking at getting high grade copies of perhaps 39, 50 and maybe a lower issues first appearance, like 14. Given I'm rather a novice to ASM collecting, what are your thoughts on key, fun issues that are also good investments? For my silver age X-Men books, I was usually aiming for between 7.0 and 8.0. Thought I might go a bit higher for ASM, is that necessary do you think?

The other question I've been pondering, is do I sell everything, INCLUDING my X-Men 1 and Giant Size, and go for a low grade Amazing Fantasy 15. I think I could raise about 20,000 for that.
Of course, my biggest concern in all this is once I start buying ASM, I may not be able to stop.

After I decided to rebuild my ASM I decided to start with ASM keys above 100. Amongst that I wanted to complete a 9.6 white page run from 120-130. I am almost done with that but for keys ASM 100 and 101 remain elusive. My current ASM keys are 121,122,129,194x2, 300 @ 9.6W and 238,250,252x2,293,294,298,299,316,360,362 @9.8W. I try and get 9.8 above 200 and 9.6 from 100-200 and I haven't started going back any farther. It is going to be awhile before I go below issue 100 but I was thinking that I would try for NM back to issue 70 and 8.5 down to issue 20 and then best copy I can afford.

I would keep the X-Men 1 and your giant size. I don't think an AF 15 is worth it to me because I would never be able to afford the grade I would be happy with (probably 7.5)
