Fantastic Four Collecting Thread!

I think I owe 4 today, and then back to two-a-days.

Fantastic Four 76 is special to me. Before I had a comic collection, I had a friend who had a great big box of old comics. They were mostly a year or two old, but they seemed ancient and precious to me (20 cent covers!). The oldest FF in there was 76, and I read it every time I was over.

Fantastic Four 86 is known as the “mute testimony” issue in my circle. Doom surveys the destruction wrought by his doombots and says “mute testimony to my awesome genius”. It’s our favorite line of his.

A teenager ripped me off in my very first trade ever. He got my $10 Howard The Duck #1, I got a 50 cent Fantastic Four 90, my first ever SA comic. Very happy about it then, happy now. Thanks, Rob!

From what I hear, 90 is tough in super high grade.

Casually playing hooky from work I had the HA auction in a tiny screen and found myself comparing the auction price today of an FF 1 8.5 noting that it went cheaper than one a few months ago with exactly the same grade.  Thinking it's a price drop (because, you know aren't they "exactly the same"?)  I then noticed the one that sold today has a big stamped letter "S" above Sue Storm's head.

What was the price, if I may ask?

I think it was 96K don't remember if that included the juice or not but there was an 8.5 a few months back that got about 125K.  If you looked at the labels only you'd think that collector interest was down but then if you see the actual books the 96K copy has a big letter stamp on it.

Hope this copies ok.  It did include the BP plus enough wear to justify the grade-guess the stamp is a bonus.  Lol

Finishing up the Skrull Gangster World arc, my sentimental favorite FF story. This copy of #92 was the sold to me as a NM+, and was my pick for my first CGC submission. Amazing cover, and as a bonus, contains maybe my fav panel in comics.

#93 is the first comic book I remember ever seeing. The circumstances are seared into my brain.

That's it.  Great condition overall except for the Giant S hovering above Sue's head.   I know it's difficult to factor in all collectors' personal peccadilloes but it makes my head wobble to know that if the book was lacking that big winging S halo and had one percent of that much ink deemed to be "colour touch" the book might likely have been a PLOD 6.0 and shunning would likely have brought the price down below one-tenth as much.
