this is not scientific at all, but more of a rub your gut and have a feeling opinion--for my silver runs the last few years i aim for a 9 on front, whereas on gold books i set the preferred mark [and a harder one to achieve] at 8.  but like lou says, 8.0 ff's, especially early, are wonderful books to have, and absolutely "good enough."
