Thanks for nice comments, guys.

GCD says there's very little, if any, Jack Kirtby in these covers. It's too bad the King didn't continue on the title except for a couple more covers.

GT,

You have an awesome collection and your early x-men are utterly dreamy :cloud9:

I love the date stamp - fantastic copy!

yeah made me wonder if it is a lost green river copy

I was wondering that myself actually.

I spoke to the person who submitted the book to CGC, book was from an OO collection out of Ohio, so no Green River, but still a nice book.

Nice group shot, Dave! It's a great way to take in all the Kirby awesomeness.

Thanks Ghost Town. Your copies are so pretty that you're making me want to upgrade! Those old labels you have are :cloud9:

If Amazing Spider-Man is the most collected series and the Fantastic Four the one that "started it all", my opinion is that X-Men is the coolest and the one with the most important and interesting historical / social metaphors. Unfortunately I haven't read as much as I would like (yet) but one day I hope I will have the time to buy an Omnibus and go through all these great stories and art.

Which is everyone's favourite cover or story from the first 10 or 20 in the series? My own favourite cover would most probably be #4. It´s awesome - and what a pleasure to enjoy it in all it´s glory in Ghost Town´s post. Just wow!

Since you asked, I'm partial to the white covers on 3 and 8. Also really dig The Blob. And Unus's name still makes me giggle

anyone pick up on any of the John G. Fantucchio X-Men books off clink tonight?  Really nice copies and almost a full-run of first series.  I was in the running for the #4 9.0 but was outbid.

I was happy to fill in my run with these.  Prices were getting ridiculous once the night got later and I got priced out of many.  Some 9.4/9.2 books were selling for $700-900 even though recent sales were in the $500 range.

did anyone here notice the beautiful xmen 1 5.0 that sold yesterday on comiclink for $5877? according to gpa, thats about a grand more than any 5.0 has ever gone for. i see alot of chatter about AF15 prices lately, but this was pretty astounding! i thiught it would go for maybe $4500. perhaps the fantucchio pedigree?

"GCD says there's very little, if any, Jack Kirtby in these covers. It's too bad the King didn't continue on the title except for a couple more covers. "

Some have speculated that X-Men become a third tier title for Marvel specifically because Stan and Jack both left after only about 15 issues.  There was nothing magical about Roy Thomas and Werner Roth.
