Invisible Ink

2 posts in this topic

Some years ago, some dealers used to mark their books at shows with "invisible ink"

that could only be seen (or detected) with an infa-red scanner.

This was used to detect if comics were lifted from the bins by stciky fingers.

(I seem to remember Sparkle City Comics doing this, years ago).

Two part question:

(1) Does CGC consider this a defect? (do they even scan for it)?

(2) Does CGC ever "mark" a book with "invisible ink" to track it through the grading process?

thanks.

Bill

1) Since CGC does not pass submitted comic books under a infer-red light and invisible ink is just that, invisible, we do not consider it a defect because we don't know that it is there.

2) CGC does not add ANYTHING to comic books submitted to us. The way we keep track of the comic books while they are being graded is that the mylar that they "travel" in during the grading process has a bar coded label (sticker) on it which matches the invoice number that it was sent in with.
