A lot of good information in your post; I have seen your posts around but somehow never knew you were a grader.

Just highlighting and bolding this section as I said the exact same thing and was told I was wrong and rang your bell to put me in my place. Seems that didn't work out.

I'm glad I could shed some light on the subject for you...  :foryou:

I think you misunderstood what I was saying.  I wasn’t trying to put you in your place nor did I tell you that it was wrong that magazines being larger allows for more flaws.  What I was saying is that, for me, that doesn’t bridge the gap on that grade.  And I requested Johnny to discuss with all of us.  :foryou:

This is the magazine forum.  It’s a safe space.  We don’t attack people here.

Doug, I certainly do understand your point, and I appreciate your faith in me.  :)

Many times, CGC will encourage newer graders to work closely with veterans. In this way, it allows them to see why a veteran grader arrived at a given grade. Of course, even veteran graders don't always see eye-to-eye, and this may be one of the reasons there are occasional fluctuations in grading. In other words, it's not an exact science.

I still inspect a lot of books, both raw and slabbed. There are times when I don't agree with the grade, but I usually just do this:  (shrug)  Or once in a while, even this:  lol

And of course you're right---this is a safe space. There'll always be different points of view, but hopefully we're all open minded enough to broaden our perspective as we go...

I managed a comic book store when I was 20.  And that was in 1991, at the peak of comic shops.  The guy that owned the store was one of the least ethical people I ever encountered.  I can’t imagine what someone has to be like to be successful today.  I know all of the LCS in my area are pretty bad...

I stopped going to comic shops when I came across so many bad ones. And it was easier to see all the new covers on Midtown.

I think I only remember two or three comic shops that I really enjoyed going to. I'm reading through this topic now.

But yeah I agree grading isn't an exact science. As someone who has been involved with books and comics for the majority of my life, I'm pretty good at knowing conditions.

Ya'll cut the malarkey and get back to posting beautiful Vampirella stuff.  :sumo:

I would say soon but the virus put the brakes on a Vampirella project I have in mind. But to give a tease. I do own The Art of Jose Gonzalez and the big Jose Gonzalez Vampirella Art Edition.

Thought I'd show these off.  I had the honor of meeting Barbara Leigh a couple years back at one of the Los Angeles Comic Cons.

She was very personable and accommodating, signing whatever you put in front of her.

I also bought her book and had her sign a couple Vampi issues(photo covers) I had on hand.

I was excited to get this. The original cover proof for Vampirella 80, which ended up with a different background, blurb and color scheme on 83. Personally, I prefer this version.  If they would have kept the verbiage off the image, it would be even better

Anyone else collect these Vampirella art books?

Just the one on the top left for me. Plus the Gonzalez Vampirella Art Edition which I believe could almost cover all four of those books unopened. I was surprised at that one as it's bigger than the Artist Editions I'm used to.

I just got this modern Vampirella grail back from CGC today. It's a pain to photograph correctly, but it looks so much better in person. I actually rolled the dice and sold my 9.0 copy before I sent this one to be graded. Jackpot on the upgrade!
